Xabi Finally Gives Rafa the Finger
By: CSD | August 4th, 2009
The midfield maestro, Spanish international, Xabi Alonso, is set to be joining Los Blancos (ugh) after a transfer fee was finally agreed upon. The fee is rumored to be around £30m. This is where I start crying like a girl and cursing Rafa. Relations between him and Alonso first got strained two seasons ago when Alonso missed the Champions League match against Inter Milan to be with his girlfriend who was giving birth.
I don’t blame Xabi for wanting to leave after the unsuccessful attempt to offload him last summer. It has to be difficult to play for a manager that you know wants to get rid of you and must be bitter sweet to turn it around and have that same manager practically beg for you to stay. Unfortunately, Liverpool have not won anything lately and a player of Alonso’s caliber has a need to win trophies. And now, with this transfer, he can continue to have that need unfulfilled while playing alongside his new overpriced and overrated teammates.
Let’s see the good and bad sides of this:
Good: Money for the club
Bad: Not enough money to buy suitable replacement, Xavi.
Good: ???
Bad: No more long, laser guided passes.
Good: No one left to kiss Stevie if Liverpool win the Champions League this season.
Bad: No one left to Kiss Stevie if Liverpool win the Champions League this season.
Good: ???
Bad: “Best Midfield in the World” song getting harder to sing.
Okay, so obviously I’m a little bitter. When one of your best players who is critical to the club gets sold, it always hurts. The rumor is that we will land Alberto Aquilani from Roma after this, but even if we do, we do not know how he will fit into our system. Steven Defour is the other rumored possibility from Standard Liege. He’s younger and cheaper, but much less experienced.
Blech. I’m going drink and refuse to stop until we can win a friendly without losing by 3 goals.

Huge loss for you guys, and the Premiership–Alonso was class. And here I was thinking this was going to be you guys’ season, too…

man, that “best midfield in the world” song is definitely getting harder to sing…hopefully its words will ring truer though. lucas can now evolve into the midfielder we want him to be and momo sissoko while he tried hard and was a warrior for half a season was never going to set the world alight for a sustained period.
get rid of players who don’t want to be here and bring in players that do. i’m going to miss our basque midfield maestro but hopefully rafa can turn 30mm into a future great.

Poulsen will be the final cog in the Liverpool team to lead them to glory…unlike Robbie Keane and David N’Gog. It will be refreshing to have such a talented refined midfielder gracing Anfield’s pitch. Signing Poulsen is a step up from the likes of average Spanish playmakers, in fact, I’ve already forgotten his name. Just like Liverpoolians will. I only hope that we can stop Rafa from poaching our midfield general and fan favorite for a bargain price.

By the way, the least you guys could have done is sell us Xabi last year. You’d have Gareth Barry and Man City and Real would have missed out on key players. Rrrrahhhh

Best midfield in the world? Where? Even with Xavi you guys had far from the best mid in the world, sorry.

Xabi*… he could never be Xavi.

Agreed. What’s this best midfield in the world nonsense circulating around Anfield?

Inside joke for the supporters. If you don’t get it, then you’re not inside.

I hope Rafa signs someone whose name is 5 syllables and ends in O.

Hey Marlon, can you give one more hint, please?
Like, in which country he plays or first letter of his name?
I really believed in Liverpool getting back the title of sole record holders, but now I fear ManUtd could do that instead. And that would be horrible…

Marlon> The closest I can get is Cambiasso.
I suspect 1 of the reasons he played his guts out last season was to make other big clubs take note of him and then he can stick it up Rafa’s arse. Which he just did. Crap. We’re losing a great player here, not yet legendary, but almost.

Alonso held the team together and made team click, the club has just taken a step backwards with regards to winning the title

I think some of you didn’t get that I just want the signing’sname to fit into the “Best Midfield in the World” song.

@YWNA
If you had to choose between him and Fat Frank
We would choose Xabi timePosted from

Over the past 5 years all I’ve ever heard about Alonso from mancs, bitters, etc. is that he’s too slow, not good enough, wouldn’t get into their midfield…all sorts of nonsense. And now that he’s gone, he’s the best thing Liverpool ever lost. At least get your damn stories straight. But then, you’re used to sounding like ididots.

Damn it….*idiots.

Alonso hasn’t been as consistent as people make him out – it would have been a much greater loss to lose Mascherano who is the key to the current successful formation employed by Rafa. Be nice to get rid of Lucas and get another decent midfielder in – or perhaps give Spearing a chance…

You just got a decent midfielder…Alberto Aquilani.

the only difference between alberto aquilani and xabi alonso is that now xabi walks alone

Roma fan here. I hope Aquilani brings you years of success and goals. Its tough to see a Roman leave Rome, but if he had to go anywhere, I’d pick ‘Pool. At least its not Inter or Juve. Best of luck.

Marlon: lol, you really had a few of us scratching our heads.
alessio: sorry we didn’t take your offer. write man city, they’re stocking up on trouble makers.

Kyle> Thanks for that. I’ll be rooting for Roma this season. Always liked Totti!

i’ll never forget the role he played during his 5 years on Merseyside .. godspeed Xabi ..

but WHY is he leaving us for that ridiculous bunch of clowns (aka real madrid)?? didnt he learn from owens mistake? lpools more likely to win trophies than a team with enough attacking players to play 0-0-10, shtloads of money dont automatically get you trophies. (same w/ city)
aquilani can pass the ball but noone has xabis intelligence and noone can read the game that well.
im crying too, its a disaster, we just dont have the best midfield in the world anymorePosted from
