Wigan 1, Liverpool 0: Embarrassed Goosebumps

By: Ed | March 8th, 2010

Just idly standing by as a football match takes place.

And here I thought nothing could be more difficult to endure than a third night in Las Vegas. But never underestimate this season’s Liverpool and their ability to make 95 minutes of your life unbearable. Ugly, limp, tepid, petulant, and often amateurish. At least history was made. Oh, and Jon Champion most definitely reached climax when Rodallega poked past Pepe Reina. That pit in your stomach? Mediocrity and irrelevance.

So well done to Wigan, who clearly deserved to win and took the game to Liverpool for large spells of the match. Liverpool couldn’t take the few chances they had and again made a mockery of those tracking passing percentage. It was undoubtedly a large step backward for Liverpool, falling further and further adrift of teams that consistently show mettle and commitment. It’s painful, it’s ugly, and the worst part is that it’s earned.

Done with this for today, because it’s all going to come out whiny and pathetic. Time to regroup.

There is only ONE answer, get rid of the Spanish Twat of a manager !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I think is embarrassing getting beat by Wigan come on, and as someone said above about all these back paces we seem to be it alot recently.

and Gerrard doesnt even look interested.

Arsenal guys, thanks for the good tidings. And as always, I welcome pity from any corner of the Earth.

No clue about what happens transfer-wise, but I'd say that players with a spine don't necessarily cost much more than those without. And that's what Liverpool need. Skill is almost irrelevant when the only thing the club excels at is underperforming and acting nonplussed about it.

Any projections on how much selling will take place if (when?) we finish out of fourth? Because I really wish we would have spent 20m on a god damn striker. Singling Torres up top when he clearly didn't have it was crazy. Pair him with Babel or Ngog. He got no service all day and forced it when he actually got the ball. I know the Keane partnership didn't work out, but I don't think you can say unequivocally that Torres can only operate solo.
  • Ed, I feel exactly the same, absolutely gutted. That fourth place looks like a pipe dream at the moment.

Indeed, I'd love to see more attacking players and a certain decent Italian who loves to play football, instead of a Brazillian who's definition of Samba football is by passing towards his own goal-side.

Thanks for the welcome message Jack, the 'We can't beat Wigan club' will be a lifetime membership, I presume -- not one I'd subscribe, but judging by yesterday night's standards, I might have to succumb to it.

Haha the Reds got squashed! Squashed!!!
  • I have always wanted one of the big four not named Arsenal to drop out of the top four places. But this... I actually feel alittle bad for liverpool, and im astounded to realize that.
Must be the Dutch players on your club who I wished did more, and Ed's humor and realism is so rare in a liverpool fan :)

Usually I root for united, but I respect the history of Liverpool. Hm... how can I say this.. damn I feel sorry for you guys :(

Hope you guys find your feet soon, it'll make the league much more exciting.
  • i don't even know what to say anymore .. yeah....

Lets just admit the fact that Benitez needs to leave, caragher needs to retire, and Liverpool needs a new center back.
  • Ed
Yeah Charlie, the missed chances were worrying, but I think I was equally bothered by how immature he was. He was just asking for a yellow and was lucky to go as long as he did without getting one.

And what in the world happened to Torres? He clearly lost it today (I mean his touch).
  • CharlieFineman
Ahahah Jack :> I thought that there were too many back passes between the midfield and the back four. Don't want to state the obvious, but how else do you expect to create chances rather than moving the ball forward? Carragher wasn't at his best, although the Greek did well to clear (just like our own Mikel, heeey!). Babel. He certainly illuminated the field once he came on. Seriously, Rafa could do better than bring him on five minutes before the final whistle. He transformed the attack, and I almost believed that Liverpool can equalize. Well, they didn't, and well done to Wigan! It was a joy watching them.
  • Ed
    Thank you?
  • Welcome to the "We can't beat Wigan" club. It's pretty exclusive.
  • Steve Platt
I fully agree. I have backed this club all the way for so long, listened to the same boring and futile excuses coming back. I am so tired and embarassed with the same, predictable and mundane football Benitez AND the players are displaying. It is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I would consider cutting salaries immediately for this level of tripe. I like Rafa, he has done some good stuff, but now enough is enough. Same old tactics, same old excuses. Other teams have evolved over time but Liverpool have stayed put, nothing special has happened, NO evolution. And a loss to Wigan in front of 18 thousand specators is piss poor and clearly a symptom of what needs to happen.
I would not pay you lot in buttons for tonights performance, Sunday league teams put more effort into it! Sort your damn lives out and start fighting.
    Attack, Attack, Attack!!!
