I don’t for one moment condone the fans who allegedly spat at Hicks jnr but what was he thinking on going there? He can’t be that foolish to think he would be well received can he? If he wanted to speak to fans, which is a decent gesture to be fair, then there are much better ways of organising it. A supporters forum which is properly organised by the club or the Echo would have been one option and it would have been great to hear what he had to say in a controlled, constructive manner. But to just stroll into a pub unannounced and expect fans not to heckle him was naive in the extreme. I’m baffled at the thinking to be honest.

My feeling is that the owners are trying to build bridges, which is only a good thing, but have underestimated the strength of feeling against them, which is bad.

That said, I’ve got no time for anyone who spat or hurled beer at him. Behaviour like that does no one any good and it’s hopefully a good sign that “little” Tommy JR (he’s 6′4″) isn’t making a big deal out of it.

If this is the start of a constructive conversation with both sides listening to each other, I’ll be very happy.
