Some Day, in Some Way, Luis Suarez Has to Pay

As we prepare to enter this sixth quarter of the ninth three-year plan, we take joy in the chocolate ration being raised to twenty grams and in the continued success of our glorious struggle against East Manchester. And also in the English FA having not yet banned Luis Suarez for displaying his non-regulation incisors in joy or anger whilst in public…

* Reserves news might not always top of our list of concerns, but with Jonjo Shelvey’s well-publicised return to Liverpool before the end of his loan spell at Blackpool in order to strengthen further a dominating midfield collective set to crush all before it, we find ourselves casting an eye towards those yet to make their mark with the first team. It is no surprise then to find that Liverpool’s strength in the middle of the park carries down into the reserves, where attacking midfielders and NextGen starlets Krisztian Adorjan and Fernando Suso scored a goal each and Shelvey continued the form that had been on display at Blackpool by adding a pair himself as Liverpool cruised to a 5-1 victory over outmatched Wigan. Natchan Eccleston, fresh off a reeducation spell with League One side Rochedale, rounded out the scoring for a reserves unit who would surely crush all before them save perhaps Liverpool’s senior squad.

Elsewhere, the u18s failed to progress from the first round of the Youth FA Cup, falling to Swansea and so allowing them to rightfully turn all their attention to u18 league action, thereby increasing their odds for success in the competition that always mattered more.

* Following the match against Fulham on Monday, there was talk of Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool appealing Jay Spearing’s red card and the mandatory suspension that goes along with such a punishment. However, though some media outlets persist in reporting this possibility as an inevitability, it is now widely believed that Liverpool will choose to allow the FA to save face on the matter and not launch an appeal.

With the aforementioned strength in midfield there is little doubt the club will be able to survive the absence of Spearing, and it may even lead to the chance for Jonjo Shelvey to illustrate said strength in depth against Queen’s Park Rangers on Saturday. Regardless of whether or not the club does challenge Spearing’s red card, however, be assured by no less than Kenny Dalglish that the player himself did nothing whatsoever wrong on Monday, and that if there is any fault in the matter it is that of the officials who do not call fouls with any kind of consistency across matches:

Jay had no other thought in his mind but to win the ball, and he did win the ball. I’m not a referee so all you can say is sometimes they are given, sometimes they are not, but as long as they are consistent then it’s not a problem.

While it may be unfortunate for the player personally, take comfort in the fact that it will in any case be no problem for the club and manager, and that if Spearing does indeed miss games in the coming weeks it will only make the club stronger down to road through the chances it gives to the likes of Jordan Henderson and Jonjo Shelvey.

* Moving on from midfield issues only leads to more potential conflict with the English FA, who after weeks of tormenting Luis Suarez by endlessly dragging out the case of racism as alleged by Manchester United’s Patrice Evra are now thought to be considering an immediate ban for the attacker in the wake of his flashing the middle finger to Fulham supporters as he departed the pitch on Monday. After having been declared public enemy number one by the London Press, some might understandably find themselves wondering if Suarez’ confidence in and commitment to a footballing future in England has been shaken, though it seems certain that the Uruguayan is made of sterner stuff than that and will only use such obstacles as a means to push on to even greater heights. As for the London Press, they show their true selves in the glee with which they pick at the skillful attacker, conveniently forgetting, overlooking, or just plain ignoring that in the past players have avoided punishment for making obscene gestures or otherwise taunting the fans, with the most recent case being in January of last year when Manchester United’s Gary Neville was caught blatantly showing Carlos Tevez the finger during a match.

With word that our friends in East Manchester may soon be joining the fight, we’ll be back later on with any news of Suarez’ continuing campaign against the London Press and English FA. We also may be back if there’s news to report of a production surplus on tractors relative to tractor engines. But in the meantime…

i cant blame suarez. .. its such a disappointment to loose the game, add to that the fulham fans abusing you, add to that you are forced to play with slow sluggish carrol, add to that your best friend kuyt isnt playing, add to that your in a team that completely lacks real quality and cant play your style (except for bellamy).... now add to that you honestly love this club and want to succeed with it. That would make some people run mad, and yet it only makes suarez lift a finger!

  • Amtosh

Fucking hell... Luis is an idiot, isn't he?

He should know that everyone is looking for an excuse to throw the book at him and calm down.

I suppose it's hard to calm down when a stadium's yelling that you're a cheat for more than an hour.

  • Red2death

They need to exercise some cultural sensitivity here.  In Uruguay, that's just the universal sign for "Fuck you, FA".  He really didn't mean any more than that.

  • heitz11

I can't believe the writers of this blog would post this picture without sensoring the middle finger

  • Ed

    Uh, seriously?

  • heitz11

Sarcasm never travels through text as well as you'd like.

  • kenny

Mr. Raul used the finger... Also caught on camera. I know it wasn't exactly directed toward fans, but everyone still saw it. I think it would kinda be the same thing. But Suarez is Suarez, and knowing him, all racist and everything, he moves his fingers around and causes a disruption! Just like he does when he's on the field against defenders, not with Carroll. And the worst part is, Raul looked happy about it (I honestly know where he's coming from).

  • Love the 1984 reference. Though Suarez, like Winston before him, can't escape the Thought Police forever - no one can.

  • redtrev73

Nice post Noel. I've been guilty of some 'thoughtcrimes' in relation to 'The Ministry Of (Un)Truth', a.k.a. the British press, of late. Their demonisation of Luis is so blatant that even my Manc and Toffee mates can see it. The kid must stay strong and not get into a spiral of reaction. This will not be easy and as a fellow on-pitch hot-head, I sympathise wholeheartedly with him and the restraint he will need to show. Suarez is the FA's new pinata and they are merrily swiping away at the guy.

I worry that unless his goalscoring touch returns, he may become further incensed with the patent injustice he endures in each game. For me, Heaven is Carroll and Suarez clicking over the next few games and giving the fergie-centric London press-boys something to really hate...a strong LFC founded on Dalglish signings.

Yes! This fucker only know how to show his fucking finger but he don't know how to score!!!! Liverpool really rubbish!!!! Lose to small team, just look like chicken!!!! Oh! Shit!!! • Ed

    Keep fucking that chicken, Najib.

  • Suarez from the car park...

Does it have to be a particular kind of chicken or will any type do?  I mean I don't want to use one that might get used for food later on.

  • redrk

    Are you SAF????

  • jpr

Thankfully, SAF will not have to answer any more stupid questions about whethere United are struggling in Europe. They should do pretty well in the Europa competition.

  • Seanster

I'm thinking maybe there's a leak from inside the dressing room that Dalglish called the players chicken leg after the Fulham game and this lad is in the know. If thats the case it's worrying, I'm going with Najib until the club come out with a statement to say different.

  • RedDownUnda

That's brilliant!!!!!! I love all the !!!!!!!. Why bother making sense when you can jam down on Shift and stab the bejeezus out of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. No, seriously, you have a point. How can they score if they are chicken leg? Why can't Kenny see it? Goddam. I'm with you. We need more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shit yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

    Nurse, my brain hurts. Goodnight.

  • Luis Suarez Dentist

So this is what the Blackburn owners get up to when they are not backing Steve Kean! Right I'm off for a KFC now!

  • redtrev73

The emergent poultry theme of the last two days is novel, if a little worrisome. What if this guy's cracked it and the players really "are chicken leg"?? All our fancy talk of formations and selection and all the time the results have been down to a genetic mutation we were all too blind to see...?!

  • Matty

This is hands down my favourite post in recent memory.  Not so much for what's being reported on - although it is great to see Jonjo continue his hot streak of scoring (SO hard not to make any penis jokes there, hah).  But more so because 1984 is my absolute favourite novel.  Great stuff!

Also, say we line up against QPR with Hendo & Adam in the middle and Jonjo a little farther forward and a front three of Maxi, Suarez, and Kuyt/Bellamy/etc.  What happens if, for whatever reason, we need to replace one of our CM's.  Do we have anybody else that can fill that roll?  (or would we need to get our Conor Coady on?)  And what do you guys & gals think of Jonjo as part of a CM partnership with Adam or Hendo?  (it's obvious he can pick a pass and has a good shot on him, but how is he at tackling?  I remember he even came off the bench into Left Back a couple times last season, I believe..)

    YNWA

  • The only real options would be Coady, Aurelio (if he still exists), or maybe Maxi in a pinch (though it didn't go so well for Argentina when they tried pairing him with Mascherano). Because of that, I rather expect we won't see a trio to start on the weekened, unless it involves somebody like Kuyt or Bellamy in the CAM role. As for Jonjo, he did get played at LB towards the end of a few games, presumably to develop his defensive game, though he's on record as not much being a fan of that half of the game. Also, ta.

  • redtrev73

Y'know, it seems to me that the ever-adjustable Mr Kuyt could do a more-than-adequate job in the middle if required. He's got the engine, the defensive nous, sees a pass and is neat and tidy in possession. Obviously he's no Lucas, but then who from our current staff is?

If, at this point, it's not glaringly apparent to you all that I'm trying to shoehorn Dirky into EVERY 11 that starts, well, I fucking quit.

  • airamanna

Of the many things about this season that confound me, Kuyt's sudden expendability tops the list.

  • Purify_the_body

Maxi would be next up in line, as Lucas' backup's backup's backup.

  • Suarez from the car park...

do we have a replacement middle finger?

  • Ashfaf Hussain

I told you guys that Suarez is a victim of circumstances. Beacause of his style of play referees, I mean British referees are biased against him. I suggest Bristish referees come to Malaysia ans see hoe professional we are here in dealing with such kind of play. Shame on yopu British refrerees!

  • KC

Sometimes I just don't understand the way people think. Suarez may be a demon on the playing field but he seems like a total nice guy off the playing field but is now England's public enemy number one. Terry, Cole, Rooney, Giggs etc etc are total bastards off the field with their cheating, scandals, shooting down people and lack of decency towards relationships all publicised and revealed and they are forgiven and even idolised. It just doesn't make sense and all that talk about Suarez saying racist things towards Evra, actions speak louder than words and to me, if Suarez was English, he'd be celebrated for his passion rather than punished.

I'm totally biased but the more people hate Suarez, the more I think he's awesome so other people can suck it.

  • Suarez from the car park...

The media will always stick with the power base, safer that way, even if the banks do screw you for everything going.
There's plenty of appetite for a little anti-foreigner stuff.  Just look at the Daily Mail.

A century of hate and going strong.

  • Neb

I'm in the other people can suck it camp too
