Say It Ain’t So, Alonso
By: CSD | July 20th, 2009
When one of your favorite and most important players is continually linked with another club, all you want them to do is come out and pledge their allegiance to the team and supporters. Unfortunately, sometimes that player really does want to go elsewhere and even though they’ve tried to keep it hush hush for fear of a backlash from the fans or the club that they are currently with, it gradually sort of just comes out. They end up saying what we already know.
It’s always a great feeling when Madrid want you, especially considering the phase of the career I am in now…I will talk to him [Benitez], sure, but the first thing to do when I arrive [in Austria] is to greet him.
But I imagine that in the next few days, there will be time for all that, even though in reality, there’s nothing in particular to talk to Rafa about. It’s the clubs who have to negotiate to reach an agreement.
Okay, so Xabi wants to leave and doesn’t have any interest in talking to the manager that did not even rate an invitation to his wedding. Who will fill the void in the midfield when the inevitable happens? Will it be Aquilinai? Or, will the tactics significantly change and force us to rely more on wingers like Ashley Young? Either player would be a great addition to the squad, but you know where the money will have to come from…
After registering the first loss of the preseason to Rapid Vienna (1-0), the squad will head to Thailand and then Singapore where they will say hello to Kai and Nadia. Hopefully, they will be able to provide some photos from the match. And hopefully, Nadia’s will cover more than the backside of Fernando Torres.

Maybe Rafa will use Torres in Alonso’s place and put Carra in attack.

To all you scousers out there, the news gets worse yet. Mascherano’s agent has gone public and said Javier “is sick of life in England”. It’s going to be a hell of a long year for the Reds if you lose Xabi and Mascherano in a summer.
Just sayin’ is all.

I think Liverpool will keep them.
They have the best midfield.
Can see them being favourites for the premiership

Whom do you think Liverpool can afford to lose more, Xabi or Mascherano?
Just a curious Barcelona fan who would like to know Liverpool version of the story.

Liverpool can afford to lose Alonso more. We may be splitting hairs here, though. I’m not a huge Pool fan (admittedly I’m an Arsenal fan), but I agree that they have a rock-solid midfield.
Plus I think Masch is one of the top three DMs playing now. Besides, where would Masch even play at Barca? If he was competing with the Yaya, Busquets and Seydou, wouldn’t that go against Pep’s argument for getting rid of Samu? (”We can’t have too much talent on one position”)
Alonso will probably leave this year for buckets of money. Masch will leave next.

Chunk, I agree on the fact that Masche is one of the best DM. For me he is the best at the moment.
As for where will he play at Barcelona, He will fullfill a dream I have, with Masche-Yaya-Xavi in the midfield. And Iniesta-Ibra-Messi upfront. With henry rotating on two positions.
And no, it doesnt mean Barcelona playing 2 DM. Yaya is originally an AM with very underrated techniques. He will play in that Midfielder position creating an outlet for Xavi, boosting his long shots, and running into the box creating two towers With ibra for Alvis-Iniesta crosses while both stretch the field left and right creating more space for Messi to penetrate. Against Bus parking (our all time nightmare at Barcelona) thats the perfect selection.
And sorry for posting this Barcelona thing on Liverpool page where no one really care
. Its just to show that our dream to have Masche is not stupid as it may sound. Though I believe we are unlikely going to have him. If I would be liverpool, I won’t let him go, not for less than 45 M anyways.Posted from

Chuck, if we lose both of them this season I might have to look for a nice tall building to jump off. Unless, of course, we bring in (somewhat) competent replacements. Problem is that such partnerships take time to build. I’d be totally gutted if either leaves. But if I had to choose, I’d rather Alonso leave. Marsch is one of those who loves jumping into the thick of thingn and doing all the dirty work. Players of this mould are few and far between, the midfield hard-man.
