Liverpool 0, Feyenoord 1: first half thoughts

By: Brian | August 5th, 2007

I don’t really have that much to say. It’s been more exciting then that dreadfully awful charity shield earlier today, but that’s not saying much. On the goal, it looks like we got burnt being too far forward, something I have cautioned about way too many times in this preseason. I’m literally utterly disgusted at the moment.

Anyhow, other than that, we’ve been pretty dominant. Harry Kewell and Daniel Agger have played exceptionally well and if I had to pick out a player who’s had an ‘off’ match, it’d probably be Jermaine Pennant. He hasn’t been that bad really, but he seems a bit useless.

To be honest, I’m glad we’re down for once this preseason. Now let’s see how we react. I’m already drunk, watching this match at the pub, so maybe my perception is a bit deluded. Anyhow…

It might be tomorrow before I do a write-up on this match, but let’s just say this, Stevie-G and Agger were about to administer a beatdwon towards the end. Drenthe is a good player, but he needs to learn to respect his elders. If Babel wasn’t there, I don’t know what would have happened.

Reports suggest that Liverpool had a lot of possession, but seemed complacent about it.

Question: Do you honestly think Liverpool stand a chance at winning the domestic league? Or, will it be another season of squad rotations and missed opportunities with all emphasis placed on Champions League?

answer, yes we will be going for the league title this year, anyone who judges what will happen in the league based on pre-season games and results is a fool, judging by the charity shield yesterday both utd and chelsea will be mid table at best. simply that wont happen. the manager and players will going all out for the league title, however, i think most liverpool fans will be happy THIS season just getting a lot closer to the eventual winners than in previous years

I wasn’t judging what will happen in the league based on meaningless pre-season friendlies.

Atleti, I do think we have a realistic chance this year. With the addition of Mascherano alone, we become a much better squad. Add Torres, Voronin, and Benayoun to the equation and we’re simply loaded with experience and an amazing amount of ability.

The problem is Chelsea, who are going to play their horribly boring style of play, grinding out wins and turning on the afterburners in the final ten minutes. Sure, it’s not fun to watch, but they win a lot of matches doing it like that. If we win on August 19th against them, I think we have a great shot at winning the title.
