LFC 1 - 2 Barnsley

By: CSD | February 16th, 2008

gallowsThis is what happens when you try to focus on cups instead of the league and then underestimate your opponent. Not to take anything from Barnsley, who had excellent defending and a keeper that I think was actually Superman, but Rafa didn’t field a serious team against them. No Reina, no Torres, no Mascherano, Gerrard on the bench–ridiculous.

Putting Kewell in for Babel was a mistake. Gerrard should have been put in much earlier, but didn’t come in until 75′. I really don’t understand Rafa’s take on why he thinks it is better to have the big guns come in late instead of getting them out and getting the score up and then resting them if possible. By the end of the season, we’re going to be the most well rested losers in the league.

Have I mentioned that Crouch must go? What a horrid performance. I agree - Gerrard should’ve been on earlier, Kewell should not have replaced Babel but perhaps come on with him. And where was Torres? Why not put him on the bench to at least get 15 minutes prior to Inter? And Intandje, normally reliable was statuesque. Not in the good way.

Barnsley were terrific and tenacious and deserved the win. And their play forward - particularly crosses into the box - were to be admired.

You really are an idiot with no knowledge of the game. So you really think the players put out there today weren’t good enough to beat Barnsley?! Course they were, we shouldnt have needed Gerrard and Co.

I guess you’d have preferred to rush Torres back, him get injured for Inter and potentially more of the season.

You really think Alonso isnt a good enough replacement for Mascherano against Barnsley? Fuck off idiot.

The players didnt do it, not the team selection.

I love Crouch. Not a good game today, but he does score. Kuyt, scored today, but is terrible. Get rid of Kuyt before Crouch. Liverpool should have beaten them without Gerrard. We had to sit Gerrard for the upcoming game against Inter. Yes, Liverpool plays to win the Champions League more than their own league. I would take a few Champions League trophies every few years.

Looks like Matt’s two personalities crumbled under the loss today. Drinking in between posts is never a good idea Matt, unless you’re watching a repeat of today’s dismal performance, drinking straight whiskey, and cursing the heavens that the boys couldn’t make it happen today…Certainly a low moment in recent history, but hopefully it’ll serve as a slap in the face that the recent poor displays against…everyone…failed to provide. Come on you Reds, YNWA

That should really read as Matt #2 because their IPs and emails are different. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, even if they were conceived through anal sex.

until Gerrard came on, the only LFC player that looked bothered to put in a good graft was Yossi .. a couple of amazing runs and great vision .. the pass Alonso played into him was unreal but it’s too bad nothing came from it ..
Kuyt had a few minutes to put that ball away and good on him for doing so but the rest of the game looked like he was wearing clogs ..

    Barnsley? your having a laugh!

Itandje actually made some nice plays. Reina is going to leave for Spain soon guys. I think Rafa should get Itandje out there more so he can sharpen up. The few mistakes he has made are normal of keepers who are not getting enough playing time. Itandje represents the future at Liverpool and he has loads of talent so Rafa should play him.

Alonso got his head bashed by his own teammate. I am sure that affected his play. That said this team should have taken the game to Barnsley and attacked. There was enough talent to win. They bottled. I do not blame Rafa for this one. He is not the one on the pitch playing. I feel for him. The players are just dead and complacent.
