A massive understatement in an otherwise fairly-apt description of the match. (I think Gerrard was far too miserable and ineffective in the first half to deserve any MOTM looks).

But Alonso’s goal was really quite brilliantly taken. Check it out again and I think you’ll agree how tough it is open the hips, bring his right across the body and slot to the corner when all other indications looked like he would go to Robinson’s opposite side. It was a pretty darn well taken goal! You dont have to hit ‘em hard to score a smart goal

Was Babel really a “star” last year anyways? He needed one more year at Ajax, but will still come good if he can stay humble… good luck on that one

I shared JD view that MOTM should be Alonso or Hyypia. Alsona is every where, less error. Hyypia positioning is solid, experience count,I guess. Doubtless Gerard is fantastic Red’s leader probably his reputation make him less pro to criticism. But this match he not at his best and make poor passes, one nearly cost Red to fall behind just for Reina to come to the rescue.
As for Babel, I think he should play as Center forward more often, he must ask Rafa to be given opportunity since Torres side lined.
