Today marks the 50th anniversary of Bill Shankly’s first day on the job at Liverpool, a post he held for fifteen years. His tenure saw Liverpool rise from a struggling second division club to a perennial English powerhouse, winning three league titles, two FA Cups, and one UEFA Cup.

Obviously this is a big day for Liverpool supporters, and the internet is ripe with material on the “man of the people.”

Teamtalk has a fine piece covering his career and impact on the club…

Anfield Online has the lyrics to “The Dynasty Began…”

The Empire of the Kop mentions the lasting impact of Shankly’s reign…

Rafa chimes in on the role that Shankly played…

Yesterday Carra shared his views

Another interesting piece from the official site, this coming out of the bootroom…

Lastly, some of his most famous quotes…

The official site (newly revamped and looking smooth) is running a Shankly Week, with input from current and former players, as well as other individuals who knew the man who was so vital in shaping the Liverpool we know today.
