Keane returns to Spurs

By: Kai | February 4th, 2009

DOH!Robbie Keane has returned to Spurs after just half a season that has promised so much, but delivered so little. Following a dream move to Liverpool, which Robbo has supported as a young lad, he didn’t manage to win Rafa’s favour and probably saved his career from further anguish by moving back to Spurs.
Conspiracy theories abound regarding the circumstances in which Robbo left Anfield.

1) Was he a pawn in a power struggle between Rafa, Parry & the Owners?
2) He wasn’t performing well enough to fit his 20-million-pound price tag?
3) Insert your own ridiculous reason here

It is a known fact that Rafa’s 1st choice target during the summer was Barry. That boy will probably be counting his lucky stars it’s not him being pushed around like an unwanted baby.

Regardless of all the conspiracy theories, I am beginning to have certain concerns.

1) With Robbo gone, we have only Kuyt as a proper striker in the event that El Nino gets injured/suspended/overworked. Egg Nog just don’t cut it. Even then, Kuyt will never be as prolific as Nando, I feel.
2) We just lost about £5m on this deal.
3) What’s with Benitez saying things to the effect of Keane’s value will drop to about £10m at the end of the season when he just signed Keane for £20m at the start of the season? Doesn’t seem exactly like a great deal to have your purchase depreciate by half after just a year! (Someone please enlighten me on this!) Is this just some excuse cooked up when he was taking a crap that morning?
4) Benching Robbo after he scored 2 in a match just isn’t giving the boy a sporting chance, I feel.

All things said and done, somehow I feel relieved that Keane has moved back to a club where he is treated as he deserves. A class act and a hero. I haven’t heard any whining or complaints about the way he was treated by the Club. A true professional.

I trust I speak for most of us when we wish Robbie all the best in White Hart Lane.

Cheers, mate!

Keane’s value fell because he was over-priced even when Rafa bought him. 20 mil is just too much for a player of his caliber, no wonder ‘Arry was able to buy him back much cheaper. I am also wondering why ‘Pool didn’t go for Arshavin?! The guy was available, he could have been a great acquisition.
If not Arshavin, then why not Saviola or David Suazo? Or even Crespo for 1,5 years… But bloody Ngog.. Rafa will lose his job in a matter of months if he continues like this.

Yes, I felt 20m was abit too much for Keane. He’s good. But not THAT good. Somehow I’ve got this feeling that Arshavin will thrive under Wenger and not Benitez.
Was kinda hoping Benitez bid for Podolski though. He would have been cheaper and had more potential to grow. Hell, yeah. Even Crespo would have been good.
Depending in El-Zhar & Egg Nog really takes the cake. They are hardly even close to being covers for Torres.
I’m just hoping the fat Spanish waiter hasn’t lost the plot yet.

well we never paid the full £20mill for Keane, it was around £18mill rising to £20.3mill with add-ons, which surely havent been met in his 6 month stint.

And reports suggest there are add-ons in the deal taking him back to Spurs, namely if they dont get relegated our fee rises up to £16mill.

So all in all only a £2mill loss. Not great business but better than losing £5mill.

And hey, its time for the likes of Babel to step up and perform anyway, hopefully now in his true position… and maybe even Nemeth will get a go when he’s back from injury, he sure looks better than Ngog at the moment!

Even if we had bid for Podolski or whoever else, they may have needed time to settle in England and into our system, maybe throwing us off track even more!

Thanks g, for explaining the details of the deal. I basically can’t be bothered with all that cause I’m just abit upset that he had to go. Sure, he was crap for us. But at least he was pretty decent cover for Nando.

Well, our speculations on whether Podo or whoever will fit into our system or not will never be answered.

Let us speculate on whether we will win the League or not.

I think only Manure players don’t have legs. They slither around like the snakes they are. Boo!!

Robbie Keane moved based on his knowledge of grass..robbie loves grass and his ability to inform the caretakers of the best time of grass seed has led to liverpool being able to play better football this year…
