Both managers decided to rest key players and let the subs fight it out. In retrospect, it might have not been the smartest thing for Arsenal to do as their Premier League hopes seem to be over now. Wenger says that it’s still possible mathematically, but let’s be honest; it’s going to be hard to catch Man Yoo with only five matches left. They will likely be hungry for a win to continue in the CL on Tuesday, but will be fighting an uphill battle against an at home Liverpool side. If Arsenal couldn’t get it done at home, they won’t win on the road.
I’m glad Crouch scored. We haven’t seen much of him lately and it was good for him to show that he can still find the back of the net (well, inside of the net) even though he has been left out in favor of the Torres, Babel, and Kuyt trio.
Man, I can’t wait until Tuesday. Hopefully, this won’t be like the movies where the third installment that’s meant to wrap up the story ends up falling flat. For at least one of the sides though, it probably will be.

what we need to do is find a way to put Crouch on the starting lineup… i say screw the 1-3-4-3 and go with a formation that can really put pressure on opposing defenses

That’d be the 4-2-3-1.. it basically puts the 2 central midfielders in with the defenders. Gerrard plays in the middle of Babel and Kuyt who put pressure on as forwards and then there’s Torres as the striker that gets way out. I do think that Crouch and Babel could be interchangeable, with Crouch playing a bit more further up. When played right, the defense is compressed and the offense does put the pressure on.

Thanks for the actual formation, and you are completely correct, when the formation is played correctly it does put great pressure on opposing defenses. Speaking of Babel, why do I get the distinct feeling like he is playing like he is thinking too much and not playing like he knows how to. The two matches that I have seen him play in (Everton Arsenal), he looks lost when he gets the ball on the left side. I have some of my buddies tell me that he is not playing his natural position, is that right? and if so, why do you think Rafa wouldnt make some changes?

oh and great job posting on a regular basis, this is one of my favorite sites to get news around the league, but i notice some teams have been left out of the blogging loop for about a year now… so just a quick thanks for keeping up with it

Thanks for the kind words. I’m not sure where Babel played before, but he’s performed well from where he’s at now in the past. He recently said in an interview that the season is taking it’s toll on him. He’s not used to having so many big games to play so quickly. The BPL is also faster and rougher than leagues in other countries. That’s why many clubs passed on Torres. They didn’t think he would be able to adjust to playing in England.
