Video: Jose Enrique v. Everton

By: Noel | October 2nd, 2011

For some it was the sort of day where one points to the end result—a victory at Goodison—as being enough, as being the only thing that really matters after a far from convincing performance. There was Luis Suarez, who scored a goal in the end though his touch often seemed heavy and his play a step off the pace. Meanwhile Andy Carroll failed to exert any influence for much of the match, yet popped up with a perfect strike that had the already half-written media narrative doing a one-eighty. And Charlie Adam had another cracker of an almost-goal while providing better support and service when Liverpool had the ball, but he was again bypassed like a traffic cone whenever Liverpool didn’t and after at least showing signs of effort early on largely left his teammates to defend ten against ten after Everton went a man down.

For a handful, however, the ifs, buts, and negatives were few and far between. And primary amongst those with almost wholly positive performances once again was Jose Enrique, putting in another Man of the Match calibre performance that further cements Liverpool’s second choice at left back—after Gael Clichy, who publicly talked of shunning Liverpool’s offer when he bought into City’s big-spending plans—as the club’s signing of the summer. To date it would likely be a close call as to whether newcomer Enrique or last year’s player of the season Lucas has been Liverpool’s best of the new campaign, and now it seems only a matter of time before he gets called up to a Spanish national side that after phasing out Joan Capdevila has been content to use Alvaro Arbeloa at left back so far in the fall. The positives and negatives of that eventual inevitability, though, as well as arguments over who will end up the club’s player of the season, are for the future. For now, all that really matters is another chance to enjoy the sudden shift in Liverpool’s prospects at left back, and one more classy performance from Jose Enrique.

Definitely best signing off the summer. Need one more in the back, though, given Aurelio and Agger's injury record. Who else is on the radar?

Enrique is by far the best player for Liverpool right now. When you look at what he brings: the pace, the strength, the intelligence, the technical skill, tackling ability, crossing, his knack for moving the ball at the last moment while dribbling, his experience, the burst to make up ground when behind or to get to the touchline, mental toughness...the total package. He does everything but get on the scoresheet. 10/10

  • Jose Enrique's bicep

    Sure is the total package

  • the left has been sorted. all hail Jose!

  • Just not that Jose.

If Bellers and Enrique keep up the consistency and impact of their performances thus far, who'd be a better bet for bargain of the season?

  • Latortillablanca

prolly enrique, LB is one of the hardest positions to fill in the world, plus, he's still only 25(?), so in terms of bang for the buck - even though bellamy came on a free - enrique's our starting left back for the next 5 years at least...

  • Ryan

He's the bomb! So what happens to Aurelio? Do we want him around still? He's not exactly proper cover, with all those injuries. And with Robinson making it through puberty successfully, things don't look well for the Brazilian. Actually, besides "that one goal", it hasn't really been too great ever. Besides that one time that Hodgson said he was the shit.

Some random stuff now to say. Our new signings in the past year are:

Enrique: AWESOME. Solid from head to toe. I hope Liverpool is keeping a good eye on his fitness, having played so much. Del Bosque, coach of Spain, is giving me a real headache by throwing random in-form midfielders and newbie defenders from some of the Spanish Europe spot clubs in the left back position, when Enrique is clearly the way forward for Spain unless Bosque wants to start trusting Arbeloa again. Anyways back to Liverpool, Enrique should be a consistent performer for years to come.

Henderson: meh, why he is playing so much? His time will come. The battle is between him and Shelvet to be second choice to Gerrard in a season or 2. I hate seeing the youngster get so much playing time lately and Spearing on the bench. Being a 20 million dollar youngster who gets on the team sheet each week and doesn't contribute much, I can see it all "going to his head" or something, turning into a little cocky prick. I hope that doesn't happen. One of the few major things I have disagreed with that Kenny has done is dropping Kuyt for Henderson. He switched it around against Everton, and I'm happy for that. Kuyt's workrate, loyalty, and goalscoring record should make him very hard to displace. Henderson comes across to me as a spoiled brat when he gets to play with Kuyt on the bench. I know he really isn't, though, so I hope the Everton game is a sign that Kuyt still has possession of his spot.

Suarez: SHOW HIM YOUR TITS!!! fantastic. I don't see him staying forever, especially if we fail to make champions league this year or win anything the next 2 seasons. But much like Torres, he'll bag 'em when we need 'em, and we'll cash in when he checks out. Hopefully not to Chelsea. Also, I have this sliiiight feeling that there will be some injury issues eventually, and at that time, we will here lots of "Liverpool are nothing without Suarez" if Carroll doesn't start becoming more consistent. That's what happened to AC Milan last year when Ibra was out. People went as far as to call it AC Ibra. Boy is that 3 weeks of time going to suck. Stay healthy, Suarez.

Carroll: Hasn't done much yet. only 22. He can be a great contributor to the team as long as he knows he can't play every game, works harder, and tries to adapt more to the way the team moves. The way I see it, he's an English boy who's future will reside only in the Premier League. Theoretically, his chances to play for Manchester United are over, and Chelsea and the other scum won't want him, so unless he's in a position where he's begging for playing time, the only direction he can go is down if he leaves Liverpool. So as long as he can pop in 1/3rd as many goals as the games he plays, our striker situation is pretty much figured out as long as we can promote a youngster or get another cheap N'Gog type player. First on the team sheet? No, not yet at least. Squad player? For sure. Another tool in the box.

Downing: Probably the most important signing this summer, along with Enrique. We didn't have a real winger, and we didn't have a real fullback. And that's exactly what we bought! I'm quite happy with how he's contributed, and he has performed better than I thought he would. I've mentioned this before, but I am slightly bitter about missing out on Ashley Young. I had been following Young since he first arrived at Aston Villa, always having my eye on him being the solution to our winger problem. I don't care how much Comolli and company say that they had their eye on Downing the whole time, it's obvious that Downing is second best. Besides Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young is the key player to Manchester United's complete domination at the beginning of this season, whereas Stewart Downing is just a good contributor and a team player. I'm still quite happy to have Downing on board of course, but I'm just baffled at how Manchester United are supposedly "knee deep" in debt, yet they can still manage to be 3 deep in each position. Besides Darren Gibson, prety much every player in their squad has played and made a contribution

Charlie Adam: I keep having to remind myself that 7 million is pretty cheap these days, and that at least we didn't spend the 20 million on him. I was never in favor of him coming in, I was never in favor of him last season at Blackpool, and I surely am not fond of him now. If he does turn out to be a backup to Stevie G, and if he does help us take down weaker opponents, then I will be glad to have him around. But cheap or not, he's a big stumbling block in the way of Shelvey, Spearing, or even Henderson from making it into the starting 11 unless he tries works that ass off. I would have much rather spent the money on a cheap defensive midfielder to back up Lucas and let Spearing be in the team until Gerrard returns.  He's past the age of true player development, and has't shown any signs of improving his defensive game, so this is the Charlie Adam we are going to have for a few seasons, plus or minus a little from being in form or out of form. I'm sure he's eventually going to score some real crackers here and there, but I'm not one to be persuaded by little glimpses of awesomeness. Same thing goes for Carroll. Carroll has a much bigger chance of being a Liverpool Dynamo than Adam, mainly because of his age and position on the field (strikers don't run the team as much as a player in a midfield partnership does). But they both have to step it up their game, or be satisfied with being a squad player much like Rodriguez has. I will support Adam as long as he's at Liverpool, but I can't let his poor performances slide. He needs better positioning, better judgement, faster movement on the ball and off the ball, and for God's sake position yourself better!

I have not seen enough of the other boys to say much about, other than Bellamy doing EXACTLY what we are paying him to do...and I guess Doni is as well, haha...

  • Purify_the_body

Interesting how the players we signed with pace, quality, technical skill, and experience -- Enrique, Bellamy, Suarez, Downing -- haven't needed any time to settle whatsoever. Just pop them in the lineup and away they go, exchanging passes and doing their thing. I think so far we should all be happy with each and every one of these signings, despite Downing's always seeming to come up just short of greatness.

Meanwhile, the ones who are slow-footed and with barely a year or less of Prem under their belt -- Adam, Carroll, Henderson -- are not carrying their weight. I know the club is eager to get back to the CL, but I don't agree in principle with signing

    (a) slow-footed players
    (b) who are also inexperienced and therefore projects
    (c) for big money
    (d) in positions in the spine of the team.

One, perhaps just Carroll as he's a striker, might be ok. But to buy 3 of these players, force them into the lineup regardless of merit, then play 2 of them out of position (Adam has no business protecting a back 4 and Henderson is not a winger) is not smart.

On paper, the positions signed make some sense because we needed a midfielder to pair with Lucas, a right winger, and another striker. But the players don't. We needed athletic midfielders to bring pace and dynamism in the mold of McCarthy, Cleverley, Wilshire, Fellaini, Barkley...not these heavy-legged slugs. Just look at Henderson at the final whistle at Goodison: he takes about 4 strides towards the ball and travels about 3 yards. It's pathetic.

And the reason SAF said Adam's corners are worth 10m is because he is not up to snuff in other areas. He hits a hell of a ball sometimes, but overall he's far too slow and poor a tackler to play for a top team.

phew - interesting point you make about qualities of our more successful signings thus far.  I think those areas of the pitch demand those physical characteristics.  A big lug striker bought to be a big lug striker basically tells its own tale - we dont need andy to become Ronaldo (the original), we need to him to become a dominant physical presence.  An effective big lug, if you will.  So not sure about the criticism there.  Hendo, well he's not twinkle toed, but its a bit harsh throwing him in the "slow-footed" category... his feet are at least as fast as kuyt, and that worked out ok in the end...

  • Suarez from the car park...

ok, I'm posting here on the assumption that everyone above in this post gets a response to Ryan's original.  Otherwise Mr LTB is going to wonder what I'm talking about (no change there).

Aurelio won't be renewed.  Rafa had offered him a pay as you play deal due to injuries  until Hodgson decided he was worth a 2 year contract as backup to Konchesky.  Aurelio's all class, another of Rafa's bargains, but he'll be 32 at least and the glass limbs will be even more brittle.

And as I have bored people silly with before, we're dealing with Kuyt, Carra, Maxi, Bellamy, Aurelio likely not being offered contract renewals end of this/next season.
Gerrard has an extra year on his contract I think but of course may not last, and Agger might fall apart completely as his years advance.

Given that few of us would play Hendo/Adam in place of established alternatives (and they'll get plenty of game time over a 50 game season incl cups)  we have to accept that we must develop a significant core while we have that cover - we've had/have the benefit of a strong core 1st team built by Rafa and it's great that they're available to become squad players.

As you rightly say, the young (lots of potential) and Adam(?) have a lot to learn, as expected.  They're getting game time otherwise the constant charge would be that they're not getting enough game time to develop.

Learning is a process that takes time - you can't just hit a switch at the time you need it to happen, and I bet less than 1 in 10 youth players make it to senior status.

Lucas is the shining example of this.  Thank god he found his stride last season, he's now an immovable part of the team's spine when arguably we've needed him most in the last several years and none of us would have seen that coming.
How long did he have to suffer the derision of fans while getting experience (does help that he was a Brazilian International of course, reflecting potential)?

Henderson has a great engine and good feet/technique, lacks a bit of courage as we saw at Stoke.  Adam has courage, one good foot but lacks mobility.  Carroll should be more dangerous/threatening.

The coaches really have to earn their coin with these three and develop them and we must hold them to account almost more than the players, and to date the results on the whole support what the manager is doing.
Can we really single out  these guys for our dropped points?

It's not like they were the only ones to not finish chances or make defensive errors, though they have played their part.

Bottom line is, had we taken a small number of our chances created, we would be 3 or 5 points further ahead today, and that's as much by our senior players AND our most talented forward as anyone else.

I hope Kenny relentlessly plays these young guys outside the top 6 ties because the benefits will be seen later in the season and next, when our reliance on them increases.

My guess is that they'll play roughly 25-30 games which is what you can reliably get out of players, perhaps a little more than the older guys.  We mustn't ignore the learning effect that hopefully kicks in 6 months later.

And the last thing we must remember is that we will go back to the transfer market, especially if there's an obvious gap.  January might be a little quiet but I would fully expect another central defender to arrive at some point at least.

Currently we have to sit back nervously and watch the development of players and the team, we haven't taken our chances which has affected our results, and the general mood of the games.

Our midfield needs urgent work but we should remember there is a plan.

  • Latortillablanca

i dont get it, wtf r u talking about?

jus playin, i didnt realize kuyt and carra had deals up next season - i thot kuyt had resigned like last year or sommat...? carra, with the way kenny talks about him, is a foregone conclusion to get tied up again, but i can c us losing maxi and aurelio.  not necessarily because they dont deserve new deals or comolli wont be interested in doing a deal at the right price, but i thnk both those players (and certainly maxi) are at the point where they wanna go back to south america and have their farewell tours, and lets be honest, kinda hard to argue with a posh retirement in rio/buenos aires...

  • JPR

'Blanca. Was just reading some of your Charlie stuff. You may just have to let him run with the Pamplona bulls solo and hope he makes it out alive. Those bulls can be bitches. Think you have a good point, wait it out and see what develops. You're swimming against the tide here and are gonna wear youself down. Give it a few months and it will be resolved one way or the other.

  • Latortillablanca

ahh, bro love, gotta love it - ur the wind beneath my sails, jpr!

  • Pravda

Oh come on balance Everton were sooo lucky...

Unlucky that Rodwell got a red rather than a yellow although there was clear intent.

Very, very, very lucky that they they didn't have three other thugs in Cahill, Fellaini and Hibbert all sent off and each of them should have had straight reds.

As ever all we ever get from the bitter blue scum is whining after they've been found seriously lacking in the football department and overstocked in the thuggery departmen.

I blame their whining manager who seems to think refs should overlook every blue scum transgression just because he's Ferguson's bitch.

    LMFAO

  • kenny

Did Maxi even make the bench? I really, really want to see him again and I'm afraid we might lose him in times coming up. He's a great asset. Hopefully Kenny has some kind of plan for him

  • Ryan

Maxi is the business. I guess he's our backup to Downing/Kuyt for now, but I as well hope that he gets some games and that Kenny doesn't just run Downing into the ground.

  • KC

I'm guessing he'll be used for Carling Cup matches and non-league matches? But I totally agree, I wouldn't be happy to lose him

  • kenny

Yeah well I just don't understand how he's not included or getting playing time even though last year he scored goals and played the Liverpool way. Kenny wants pass and move and Maxi supplies to 10 times out of 10. And he gets goals. Days we have trouble with pass and move, which leads to not getting goals, I believe Maxi could be a game changer.

  • Latortillablanca

a bit generous on maxi, i think. he's useful as a squad player for sure, and i think in the dressing room he has great value - suarez relied on him a lot when he came in for example - but 10 out of 10??  geddafuckouttahere!  he useful, i like him, i hope he stays as long as possible, but if he goes, he goes, easily replaceable.

  • justin

Not quite sure how "easily replaceable" he'd be considering that he's willing to be a squad player and a player who understands our system well and plays it well too. His understanding when on the pitch with Suarez, Kuyt, Gerrard and the likes should not be underestimated.

Certainly with him being an influence to help some of the latin players get settled in it'd be good to keep him around just for team morale's sake to an extent.

  • Latortillablanca

right, im not saying get rid of him, im saying keep him as long as possible, but there are probably, what, thousands (?) of professional footballers that can do what maxi does on a pitch... if he's willing to sit on the bench 85% of the time and still be a positive influence on the dressing room AND be ready to rock if he does get PT, awesome - still easily replaceable.  Argentineans alone that cud do the same role: jonas, sosa, gaitan, d'allessandro, lucho gonzalez, gago, belluschi, biglia, etc, etc...

maybe not all those guys wud be willing to ride as much pine as maxi, so thats an advantage of having him, but u get the idea...

  • Foggy

    damu

I was more impressed with Arsenal and Spurs after their derby, than I was with Liverpool, and I can't see Liverpool finishing higher than them. And to the fool, who thinks hard work brings luck, that was not hard work that brought you luck yesterday, it was poor officiating and play acting, thats all.

  • Purify_the_body

I was also more impressed with Arsenal and Spurs, and also Basel and Bayern Munich. They all played better football than Liverpool this week, have quicker players overall, and have a higher technical level easily. Jealous!!

I can't wait for Liverpool to be a fluid, technical side again.

  • JPR

Bayern handed City a footballing masterclass midweek in Munich. That was one impressive display of 11 talented footballers playing as a coordinated unit and dominating a midfield and a match. Arjen Robben was not even in the side; just returning from injury. Ribery was especially magical, continually tormenting the City players. Aguero was lost AND slow, Nasri and Silva completely marginalized. Tevez may as well have stayed on the bench. Neuer was on vacation. Mancini was driven mad and may need a psychiatrist soon. City THOUGHT they were world class; those illusions have now been completely shattered.

  • Latortillablanca

city are worldclass...almost.  that was a 'welcome to the big leagues' night for them, and we're kidding ourselves if we think we won't have at least one of those nights when (yes, WHEN) we're playing in champs again.  Bayern is a Nice. Damn. Side.  for shizzle.  Like them quite a lot.  If the Glassman and Scarface can stay healthy for those european nights, I fancy them as a Barca Beater...  They're just so strong and imposing in mid and d with schweinsteiger, kroos, van buyten, boateng, neuer and then they got the perfect mix of twinkle toes with scarface and glassman and then a solid forward rotation.  plus they've got precisely what liverpool and man city dont - experience playing together over several seasons... dem boys gonna make some noise if they can stay fit.

  • JPR

Really hope we can challenge for CL this year. If we fall short and end up in Europa it's going to make the EPL so much more of a challenge for us. The midweek Europa games are still VERY competitive and draining. Financial incentives are not close to CL, either. And, as you well know, CL allows us to attract top quality. Henry is on record as saying he will be disappointed falling short. He recognizes the importance, competitively and financially. When an owner hands out a virtual blank checkbook, he has expectations. Even though many guys here don't care much about $35 million or $20 million for so and so, the guy writing the checks does. The fees create immediate expectations. Right or wrong.

Bayern dominated just about every square inch of pitch. All 11 guys play as one very impressive coordinated whole. Really remarkable display of total dominance against a very good side. Some of their tactical moves were just so smart. Immediate pressure on Nasri and Silva combined with immediate double teaming them if at all possible. There was somebody in their face the whole time. No time on the ball. Same with Aguero and Dzeko. They made him (Kun) look like a $40 million pound bust. Dzeko and Aguero had a combined total of one shot at goal. Tevez was Mancinis best player!! Mancini had NO answers. And, talk about a team that knows how to make a football dance. Dang.

If you want to see Impressive defined, Bayerns last 10 games (CL - 4, Bundesliga - 6):

                                              Wins    10
                                              GF       28
GA        0  (10 clean sheets IN A ROW!!)

  • Latortillablanca

thats nuts, i did not realize about their recent record...

  • JPR

Let me give you my take on the
Tevez scandal, which you and anyone who dislikes City, may find funny.

Mancini is down 2 – 0 at the half.
It’s obvious that the only way back into the match is to bring on Tevez, the
only striker on the bench, and hope his brilliance can turn the day. Also,
Nasri was not particularly effective. So, after watching the whole match, I
have to assume that Mancini’s plan was to bring on Tevez for Dzeko and DeJong
for Nasri.  But, Mancini, being an
amateur psychiatrist, as some managers like to be, hatches a devious plan.
Bring on DeJong for Dzeko, then bring on Tevez for Nasri. This way, he gets the
guys on the pitch he wants, but is able to subtly embarrass Tevez and show him
who’s boss, by not going to him first, to try to rescue the match. Even the announcers
were mystified when he made the first sub at 56 minutes, DeJong for Dzeko????

    But, what unfolded was hilarious!!
Dzeko was furious, confused and embarrassed, seeing DeJong coming in for him. So,
he cursed Mancini out for 30 minutes. Carlos immediately realized what Mancini
was doing to him, and went into his best “I don’t understand English” routine
when Mancini told him to warm up a few minutes later. Eventually, Milner was
    subbed for Nasri.

    Mancini got exactly what he
deserved in Munich! Cursed out by Dzeko. Carlito refusing to sub. Hatred from Tevez, who
he might still need. City devastated in CL. One of City’s most valuable
assets possibly turned into a fire sale. I dislike City and their fans, anyway.

  • Latortillablanca

hah, thats actually prolly not that far from the way it went down, mate.  well in.

the whole city thing is such a mindfuck emotionally (if that makes sense) to me... the  devious aspects of that much money aside, who hasn't played out that fantasy on fifa, turning, say leeds united, into a swashbuckling champions league finalist year in year out with a bulging bank account and internationals two deep at every position that get sold on when they hit 28 (unless it was like zidane or ronaldo or whatever) for a massive profit - and its honestly pretty cool to see that play out in real life.  as it relates to the tevez thing, lets face it, he's gone as soon as they get an offer they deem proper, and then his replacement is gonna be someone just as good, if not better/younger/faster/stronger/more expensive, and thats crazy to think about....  and then if u do think about it, you just get pissed, especially when city plays a bolton or a fulham or even a tottenham...

an then the fans... lets leave aside the millions of "sky blues" that cropped up outta nowhere as soon as they signed silva and yaya, cuz fans of that ilk are not worthy of discussion.  but true city fans, and honestly ive only met like half a dozen, well, u can't say they didn't wait their turn you know?  If liverpool, for example, had been bought out by the sheikh, it kinda wuda been a "order being reestablished" scenario cuz of liverpools history, but city (and i know city fans or someone with a more intimate knowledge of english footballing history will point out the whatever the hell they won back in the day) were never at the level of liverpool, utd, chelsea and even arsenal.  so to have them suddenly be not only at the level, but by far surpass basically everyone but man utd in a matter of 3 seasons, is fantasyland.  and im not hatin on citeh fans for gettin cocky about that (after pinching themselves for 2 years straight) and its even actually kinda cool, im kinda jealous...

but then after spending a couple minutes not hatin, i bump into some retard city fan that can't even spell "manchester", and read about the 500k rolex's city players get just for wipping their asses with their left and eating with their right, and i get angry all over again...

so ya, mancini does deserve it just for accepting the position as manager there, and they deserve tevez and all the reprocussions this will provide for their chemistry - im just afraid that wont be enough to stop the machine.  no, no, the only thing thatll stop that machine is some crazy ponzi scheme involving white tigers, dead victoria's secret models, and gold plated yachts that wipes out the sheikh's cash, or perhaps he'll just lose interest... personally im goin for the former...

  • JPR

Yea. They're going to be a force, I know. Hope we beat their asses like when Andy got hot last year. Tevez holds all the cards, me thinks. Contract for $250,000/Wk wages and he can devalue the tranfer fee just by being a petulant little boy. Mancini just could not put aside his ego to try to keep Tevez happy. It really bugs me to see their fans turn their backs in the stands and jump up and down or chant "boring boring Citeh". We need to stomp 'em.

  • Impressed with Arsenal? You're trying way too hard now.

  • the only people that are impressed with Arsenal are people who don't know Arsenal.

  • Foggy

So, you thought the bluenoses looked pretty solid that first 20 minutes before Mr. Atkinson pulled out his magic cards

They never needed to look solid,as Liverpool didn't do anything. If my memory serves me right, wasn't Cahill's attempt the  only one worth mentioning in the first 20 minutes?

  • Suarez from the car park...

A lot of fog in your parts clearly.
Suarez had a header into a near open net early on.  Somehow he contrived to head it to the keeper, but it was the clearest and first chance in the game.  It should have been game over within half an hour with the expertly won penalty.

Other than Spurs, Liverpool's results have suffered only from not taking a very few of many created chances - it's cost us 5 points.

It might not have been a masterful demonstration but it was professional enough esp in the heat.  Moyes loves the backs to the wall compact defending stuff - it's his speciality, apart from kicking lumps out of players.

He got that thug sentiment wrong, and was lucky not to at least have Hibbert sent off in the 1st half - no way were they going to finish with 11.

Given the squad changes and using young players (under 22), liverpool's doing fine so far.  They have a long way to go, but they don't even have their best midfielder playing, let alone everyone clicking with each other.

  • JPR

Jonny. I think the troll has already lit out back to Sunderland trying to save Steve the Bruce from relegation.

  • Latortillablanca

so, those two goals just appeared on the scoreboard of their own accord, then?  im confused, are u a toffee, a gooner or a hen? and which came first.

  • kenny

That didn't make any sense foogy, if we didn't do anything wouldn't there be more things worth mentioning? Aha I think not. Is this about Jordan Henderson? Liverpool is a club that can perform. We have wins because we did what we needed to do. Red cards or not, we can handle anything. It's all on who is showing up mentally prepared and not. We're still building.

  • JPR

Listen, I do understand that it is a LOT of pressure being close to the relegation zone. But, 6 points from 7 games is actually pretty good for a Steve Bruce team. And after you get your asses handed to you at the Emirates in two weeks the ride home will be in the relegation zone. Just try to enjoy the rest of this season; the championship really ain't so bad. And getting hammered at home by West Brom and our old uncle Woy Hodgson IS upsetting. I understand that too. You stay strong with Fergie protege Stevie this season and try to remain positiveand out of the fog, foggy. He's going to need guys like you.

I think Liverpool have been good all season
They have just lacked a killer finish at the end
Like against teams like suderland and Stoke Liverpool played well but still came out with a draw and a loss
So it's always about just finishing ur chances
And Enrique has been a beast every match only against tottenham he had a bad game but so did everyone else
And foggy if Liverpool win man u convincingly then will u b singing praise for liverpool

  • Suarez from the car park...

couldn't have put it better myself.
    What's your take on Adam?

  • CheekyFellow

What is the chance we see Gerrard, Johnson, and Agger in the lineup together in a couple weeks?
I can't tell if this is a dumb question, or a legitimate one.

  • Suarez from the car park...

You can't answer that without kicking off the 'best position for Gerrard' topic!!!!!!!!

If Agger's fit he might start, but I reckon Stevie and Glen will be second half subs.  They're going to take Stevie really slowly and probably Glen's just not match fit.

  • Latortillablanca

quite good, i dare say.  course we still gotta get through agger chipping a tooth after slipping in the tub and johnson having a "recurrence" of his right hammy for the 32nd straight time... but with the international break they shud be back JUST in time!

  • Foggy

There wasn't one player who can be said played well in that game. Liverpool were average at best, and I can't really criticise the Everton players, as they played most of the match with 10 men, but they never had a player who really stood out either. That was a hollow victory for Liverpool, as Everton never looked in any trouble until they had their numbers reduced. Liverpool are in a false position, they've been very lucky this season, once that luck runs out, I can see them slipping down the league.

So you're saying Liverpool have been lucky?  I just want to make sure I understand that when Sunderland win, there's no luck involved.  When Arsenal, Spurs, Everton, United or any one else in the league wins, there's no luck?  F*ck me man, lucks' all in the game, when Tim Howard dove to his left well before suarez shot, was he unlucky? or was suarez lucky?  Luck's part of the game old boy.  Somtimes she goes your way, sometimes she doesn't. Go troll on the Arsenal Blog.

  • justin

Lucky is when you get a goal off a beach ball with an ass of a referee who doesn't know his rulebook. Context mate, context.

  • fastrail

Lucky? Yes we were very lucky Richardson didn't get a red card for his foul. We were very lucky not to be given 2 clear handballs again Stoke. We were very lucky every foul at White Hart Lane produces a yellow which eventually leads to 2 red. That is for you, the definition of a very lucky.

  • Suarez from the car park...

We were lucky Hibbert didn't get a red either.

  • Tom Foolery

    Try a Sunderland blog.

And, maybe try to avoid all that fog next time you watch a match.

  • damu

Hollow or not, the victory gave us 3 points. And as someone mentioned, when the points are totalled up come May, the counters are not going to have a conference and say "Liverpool looked unconvincing against Everton on 1/10/2011, let us deduct their 3 points".

And regarding the luck part, the mother of all cliches is enough I guess, The harder we work the luckier we get.

  • JPR

So, you thought the bluenoses looked pretty solid that first 20 minutes before Mr. Atkinson pulled out his magic cards?

  • Joel

    That was hot.

Seriously though, he's an absolute brick wall in defense, built like a tank, pacy, good left foot, eye for a pass, and gets forward to great effect. What more could you ask for?

  • Foggy

Your joking right? Any decent competition Liverpool have come against, they folded like a pack of cards. They played Arsenal when at their weakest, yet still needed an oggy and a sending off to get passed them. They were battered against Wolves, lucky against Everton, and shit against us. When faced against a decent side like Spurs, you were crap.

  • redtrev73

You're right foggy. We're shit and Steve Fat-Head-Fergie-Spawn Bruce will lead you to Cardassius whilst the crap players at LFC struggle to achieve mid-table mediocrity. Now....please bore off, there's a good lad.

  • Ed

Well you're just a ray of sunshine, aren't you?

If you're coming to a Liverpool blog expecting to convince Liverpool supporters that they're wrong for thinking that Liverpool are sometimes good, I think you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Could you please post one of Lucas for the Derby? When i watched the game live, i felt he was immense in midfield.

  • airamanna

    nice one.
Bet the one of Adam doesn't make for such good viewing pleasure??

    Thanks buddy!!

  • I'm leaning towards doing a slightly longer Lucas post this week with some numbers/tactics talk, so if/when I'm able to dig up Lucas video it will certainly get an airing.

    Thanks Noel!

Your and Ed's blogs are simply awesome. The first thing that i do after getting up in the morning (i e after attending to nature's duties) is read any new entry in this and OYB blogs!

  • Latortillablanca

Ed, stop posting as Anonymous just to gobble your own knob - you've got a successful blog goin here, no need to taint it with self aggrandizing...

  • redtrev73

Thanks dude. Always good to know exactly how fucked up one is at any given time....!!

  • Ryan

The best way to get lots of "likes" around here is to go into explaining the details of nature's duties, especially when your replying to posts that have nothing to do with nature, or doody. That's what I doody.

But, yesh, I've said too much. Hip hip hurray for Noel "the backwards" Leon, and for Special Ed!

  • Latortillablanca

i fancy a 'like' just as much as the next phenomenally good looking contributor on this site, but that doesnt mean im stooping to your medieval methods... ... ... shithead...
