Anfield Banter: McClown begs Carra to return, Pongolle is officially gone, Stevie-G speaks out about Feyenoord, & Roque loaned out

By: Brian | August 7th, 2007

* Well, whatta ya know, to save face and possible embarrassment in England’s upcoming Euro qualifying ties, Stevie McClown has turned to some of the older players including Jamie Carragher. What a complete moron. Did he not think preferring injury prone players like John Terry, Ledley King, and Jonathan Woodgate would come back to haunt him. I personally hope Carra tells him to fuck off. Any manager who takes Wes Brown over Jamie Carragher is mental. Former Liverpool star, Danny Murphy, doesn’t think Carra will return to the national squad. Hopefully he’s right.

* It’s official, Florent Sinama-Pongolle has been sold to Recreativo Huelva. He’ll be much better off in Spain, where he’ll actually get to play and is just better suited.

* Steven Gerrard was very pleased with how the team reacted to Feyenoord’s pathetic display. I personally was glad to see us fight back, it’s something we lacked all of last season and in earlier preseason matches. It looks like Harry Kewell’s return will do wonders in this department.

* Finally, Miki Roque has joined the long list of loaned youngsters. The 19-year-old defender will join Segunda División side Xerez CD for the season.

i dont know if you have heard the interview with that numpty adrian durham from talksport when he called carra a “bottler” now me being an england fan ive been shouting for years for carra for a regular spot in the line up, i personally believe that terry, carra, and ferdinand are all equally as good none is better than the other, so if terry and ferdinand are both picked ahead, and carra said this as well, then i suppose thats fair enough, even using carra as a full back as an alternative is ok, but when it comes down to terry or ferdinand being out for whatever reason there is only one player capable of matching up to either of them and that is carra. and this is the argument carra put up to durham, as you rightly said when wes brown is ahead of carra then something is wrong. i want my defenders to defend first and look pretty second, which i would say is ferdinands only weakness he tends to fanny about a bit. so from my point of view id like him to still be in the squad but there to play, if he aint gonna play then dont pick him. and incidentaly im not just saying this cos he playes for the reds im saying it cos its how i feel about england, i have many utd fans as mates and most are in agreement with me on this matter,

as for the fisticuffs the other night, that player who stevie slapped must have done or said something for him to react like that, he has been known to go overboard in the past but since getting the armband he’s been great so that makes me think there was something really bad said.

Yeah, scott, I posted on the durham – carra spat on talksport. Durham is just a moron who hates Liverpool and will look for anything to belittle us or our players. His argument stood no ground.

I’m an England fan myself but I put Liverpool first because, well, basically the FA is run by dumb asses. It would seem like anyone with any sort of a football IQ could do a better job than them. So it doesn’t pain me to see Carra quit the squad and I’ve made no secret of Gerrard leaving as well, but I won’t hold my breathe on that one.

I’m actually glad they continue to neglect some of our younger players like Adam Hammill, Paul Anderson, and Stephen Darby.

As for the Feyenoord thing, it was a bunch of crap and if Harry Kewell was out there instead of Ryan Babel, I can definitely see it escalating into something worse.
