Tale of two starts: the Wrexham friendly

By: Brian | July 8th, 2007

Jermaine Pennant, Gabriel Paletta, Jordy Brouwer, Adam Hammill, Nabil El Zhar, and of course, Besian Idrizaj, all got off to good starts yesterday in our annual preseason friendly with Wrexham, unfortunately though, Martin Hansen and his hair did not. The 17-year-old Danish keeper made two crucial mistakes which allowed Eifion Williams to score twice in the second half. The first error was a poorly taken clearance which fell right into Williams’ feet and the second was a Pepe-like punch out where the Dane ran out to the top of the box to clear a long pass. It also ended up in the clutches of Williams who lobbed the ball over Hansen and everyone else, into the net.

Besian could have easily had five goals, but misplayed a couple of chances. El Zhar and Hammill probably should have netted as well. Though they apparently played, Arbeloa, Momo, and Finney had quiet outings. No one was injured despite a Ryan Flynn scare and what was with Rafa’s ‘Hollywood’ look? Here are the highlights:
