New Away Kits Officially Announced
By: CSD | June 19th, 2008
The new Liverpool away kits have been officially released and are available for pre-order and are ass-tastic. I can’t believe that a group of reasonably intelligent people actually sat around a table in a room and said, “Yes, that’s the one we need to go with.” This is one of the most blah kits I think I’ve ever seen. The only character to it is the checkered pattern that sort of fades out then back in.
As for the keeper’s away kit, I think Reina is going to look like a little leprechaun. Seriously, green? It makes you think that the people who design this are just throwing darts at a color wheel.
I really wish they had left this one alone, I really dug the white trimmed out in red that the club had last season. I actually bought one over the home kit because 1) it looked cool and 2) it didn’t have the ridiculous collar. The ridiculous collar is now gone on all the kits, but now we have horrible colors. Just wait until the 3rd kit is released. Actually, it won’t be that bad because I’m a fan of teal.
How would you rate the new away kit? This is where I’d put a poll but my free micropoll ran out and I’m too lazy to go find another one right now.

You stole one of my favorite jokes! How many scenarios have you experienced where you can ask yourself, “How did a group of people approve of this?” 1987 was a great domestic year for the boys of Anfield, having won the league title… but at some point you have to ask yourself– What were we thinking when we introduced the grey shirts??? Stick to all yellow, or make up a new tradition, and don’t get stuck in the horrid stylistic period of the 80s. You don’t need to boycott Gillett and Hicks, because their design has made it impossible to purchase a kit anyway!

P.S. When is it safe to invest in a home Torres kit? I would buy a Gerrard at this point, but I’ve got a bit of a man crush on Torres, and I want to make sure he doesn’t pull a Ronaldo and sell his team out. What’s the jury say? 4 to 5 more seasons of production before it’s legit to plunk some cash on a spaniard’s #9 from southern Merseyside?

Live for the moment because you never know what players or the club are going to do. As far as pulling a Ronaldo, I just don’t see Torres doing that. After several years of managing 20-30 employees, I’ve learned to read into what people say and more importantly, what they don’t say. The Ronaldo thing didn’t surprise me at all. He always had the kind of aw shucks, just here for the club and trying to be a better player mentality you’d hope for out of someone young, but at the same time, he’s young and well.. dumb. I think it’s just amazing that the last person he got advice from would be a manager that he would be competing against if he stayed at Man U. “Hey coach, think I should jump over to Spain?”
“Yes! Opportunities like this only come once in a lifetime! And it’ll make my season so much easier and successful if you do!”
So–yeah. Don’t even breathe the two names in the same sentence, that’s insulting to Torres. Fernando Torres, to me, seems like someone who wants to play at the highest level and win trophies, but really doesn’t need everything else that goes along with it. He plays because he loves the game. He doesn’t want to be mobbed on the streets by adoring fans, in fact that was a big reason he left Atletico Madrid. And I haven’t seen him showing off his house yet on MTV Cribs, so that’s a positive.
The club doesn’t want to sell him and he doesn’t want to go anywhere so if you want Torres on your back, be confident that he’ll be there in August. I can’t guarantee that he’ll be here next year though because after he shatters all records this season, a manager in Italy is going to say, “he’s fantastic!” and come with a suitcase of cash.
I might have made the last part up. Hey, I have to be a Mourinho fan too…

I understand that Torres is a much better person than Ronaldo and all that…but what happens if Liverpool do not bring him trophies to the level he wants?? i can understand a couple more years …but more than 5 to 6…I doubt it…

I’ve been a little underwhelmed with the new kits this year…The home kit’s collar is alright, but the white-bunch v-neck isn’t the best look. Gray? Come December it’s going to be Seasonal Affective Disorder in motion. Let’s just hope the Florida Marlins alternate jersey we stole will look good.

That kit is perfect for a fourth-fifth place team.

Nothing says poor visibility in English weather like gray uniforms.

I enjoy gray. I like checkers. I love Torres. Count me in as the contrarian view — I’m fine with those jerseys.
