Lucas to Corinthians?
By: CSD | August 7th, 2009
I think everyone has that one player in their club that they just don’t like. For me, that player is Lucas Leiva. Why exactly do I have such a distaste for the young midfielder who has won Olympic gold and was previously named Brazilian Footballer of the Year in 2006?
Maybe it’s not him specifically, maybe it’s the faith that Rafa puts in him after his repeated mediocre or horrible performances. After the draw against Fulham last season when he was practically booed off the pitch, Rafa came to his defense saying what a great footballer Lucas is. All I could think was, “When??? In training?” Now, don’t get me wrong, his resume is impressive for a 22 year old, but this sport is all about what you’re doing now. If you’re not producing now, it doesn’t really matter what you did last season or the season before that.
Now, I read that he’s considering a switch back to Brazil to Corinthians because of his lack of first team action. Personally, I’ve seen him way too much of him on the first team already and would not be hurt at all if Lucas ended up back in Brazil playing alongside Fat Ronaldo.
If you really want to do well at Liverpool, Lucas, here’s my advice: You’re only 22 and your name isn’t Messi. Shut up and work hard.

Never understood what Rafa sees him him. As an Arsenal fan, I was always happy to see him on the pitch for the other team…

Lucas is more likable then Philip Degen and Ryan Babel.

Lucas is the one player on Liverpool where when he has the ball I root for the other team.

Between you and me, Lucas is actually a spy from North Korea sent to gather intelligence about developed countries’ receptivity to slow, unintelligent, awkward, poor tackling footballers. So far I’d say his mission has been successful. As has his quest to look like a lesbian, which was not part of his objective.

Lucas has never really contributed much, but he has so many redeeming qualities. Like that time he gave the ball up at the half line against everton in the league derby leading to their equalizing set piece. And then but not several days later he cleverly lunged in for a second-yellow effort in the FA cup clash against said blueshites, allowing the other players on our team more space to cover for. I was still on the fence at this point but when he conceded that penalty against wigan during his next appearence, i knew he was a keeper.

Alternatively, he’s only 22 and he wears a red shirt. You could try getting off his back instead of slating him like he’s some kind of anti-christ.
Has he set the team alight no, has he played his way into the side – NO? But he’s had his good games as well as his bad ones. The Merseyside derby in his first season, The Champions League QF with Inter and don’t forget who played when we demolished United at Old Trafford. It wasn’t Alonso.
Rafa has every right to defend his signing at that age the last thing you bloody need is to come halfway round the world and have your own ‘fans’ boo you of the pitch.
He’s had a very positive pre-season and tried to play his way into a starting berth post-Xabi, it’s only natural he’s going to be dissapointed to see an outsider in Aquilani jump ahead of him in the queue. Wanting to be in the squad shows ambition and given that he was Brazilian player of the year in 2006 he probably hoped to be in the 2010 World Cup squad. He can’t do that from the bench.
If he’s not good enough he shouldn’t play, fair is fair. However some people respond better to encouragement as opposed to a slating just because some mouthy tit on the internet doesn’t like them.

People who want Jay Spearing to play ahead of Lucas baffle me.

you need lucas til aquilani is healthy, then he can leave. you are getting a great player in aquilani. the reason he was hurt so much at roma is because he went through the growing pains most footballers go through, even gerrard, and secondly because the doctors in italy, and especially at roma, are idiots. 3 or 4 years ago an entire hospital was shut down near rome because the doctors had fake documentation, and by the way it was the hospital roma would send their players to. I’m a roma fanatic, but selling aquilani was stupid. if you can get him healthy then you have one of the buys of the summer. he will be like xabi x2
