Wow — what an amazing game for this relatively new Liverpool fan. This is the first season I’m following the BPL, but man — what a set piece by Gerrard. The handball called on Carragher was gut-wrenching but what a finish.
Very neat stuff…

What an absolute QUALITY strike by Stevie, I couldn’t believe that set-piece. Wow, it was simply stunning. What a way for him to start the season.
And not a bad start for Torres, even though he should have buried his chance before the own goal, he still was still in the game.

PS Keith, its the Premiership, none of this BPL rubbish…

Liverpool’s goals today:
1st: an own goal
2nd: resulted from a poor decision by the refTorres looked very good and Gerrard’s free kick was great, but he shamelessly complained for it. Had it been a mid-table club, I doubt the ref would’ve given it. That said, Villa didn’t take their chances, so will have themselves to blame. They had some very good possession for bits of the game.

It’s not even the premiership. Its the English Premier League(EPL). That’s what used to be before and that what people all over the world know it as(I’m not sure about U.S.).
Anyways, Brian can you post the post match interviews. I didn’t find them.Posted from

Atleti, yeah, I know, the actual goals (or opportunity to score a goal) weren’t exactly great, but that’s the kind of thing that happens to teams destined for greatness. Hopefully it was ominous. You can’t deny Stevie-G’s goal wasn’t world class though. simply amazing.

Also, atleti, that ‘handball’ was rubbish, even if it did hit his hand or arm or whatever, they weren’t going to score on that play anyhow. In fact, in my opinion, it sucks because Carra would have been a shoe-in for man-of-the-match if that wouldn’t have happened.

Keith, BPL? If you’re calling the EPL boring based on this game, well, you’d be right, not all games are this bad, but compared to other leagues *cough* MLS *cough* it’s a hundred times faster and more exciting.

Yikes fellas, I didn’t mean to cause such a stir. I referred to it as ‘BPL’ as in Barclay’s Premier League. From now on I’ll just say Premier League or EPL — you’ll have to forgive me, I’m a relative newbie on these grounds.
And Brian — I don’t understand your last post. I wasn’t insinuating that the EPL was boring. Far from it. In fact, the reason that I’m only starting to follow English football now is because the MLS just never cut it — I want to watch the best in the world, not a AAA league.

The ref could not let Carragher’s handball go without notice.
Liverpool played good, for the most- not sparkling. At the end of the day, it’s always about the 3 points. Just the 1st game of the season, too. So still time to improve and tweak up performances.
Villa need to work on their goal-scoring form.

Yeah..Villa needs to work on the goal-scoring form, but whether or not the Ref was supposed to call the free-kick for Gerrard, he absolutely nailed it.

I real dont care if it was fair or not fair i’m just concerned wit the 3pts plus the win over the 1st game of a season…..

As far as I know it’s called “the Prem” over in Merrie Englande itself…

Liverpool still play the same football. I will like to see more new faces combining on the Midfield, Babel look threatening when he come in. Not sure why no Kewell,Risse should stick to overlapping Left back. I use to worry about Benayoun when West H play against Liv,now he is Red’s player, I want to see him more, a very attacking minded player. Torres look good, he seem to be a player Liv lacking for past years, I think he is a striker who can run with the ball and shoot, ManU got Ronney, Chelsea got Drogba who can do this.Anyway, Congrat to the Reds, collected 3 points away, ManU only manage to Draw at home, so, a result, though just the start.

Just to clear this up, the name was officially changed this year from the ‘Barclay’s Premiership’ to the ‘Barclay’s Premier League’ so Keith was right all along
