Is Ryan Babel on the way?
By: Brian | July 8th, 2007Wow, this one is sort of a shocker, but at least it’s a somewhat believable one. Apparently we’ve put in a £6.75m bid to Ajax for the 20-year-old striker/left winger that’s close to being accepted. I didn’t even give Babel a thought since I believed he was all but gone to Arsenal, but I did watch him play in the U21 Euro and thought he was a decent player. I would have paid closer attention to him had I known he was a target of ours.
Here’s a couple of videos of him:

He is a good player, it seems. Nice recent tournament.
He’s said that he’s staying at Ajax for next season and the moving to Arsenal, most likely meaning he’s not staying at Ajax next sesaon at then not moving to Arsenal.
We’ll see!

£6.75m is a joke. I know The Pool are always undervaluing players trying to save a few quid but Babel wont go anywhere for less than double figures maybe £11-12m.
I think you’ve been a bit harsh on him for the U21 Euros, i thought after the group stages he was one of their best players, and i cant believe Birmingham got the best player in the final, De Ridder. Weird.

Benitez low balls to get the best deal and see how the other club reacts. You never know what kind of financial position a club may be in even one as established as Ajax. Not every club can be Man U and act like they have money to spend when they obviously don’t.
Would you rather LFC do what Chelsea, Man U and now West Ham go about it and overpay just to force out other bidders? Houllier got caught up in that game and that was one of the reasons he was shown the door.
If Babel expresses interest in joining our club, we’ll make it work, but I doubt we’ll pay more than £10m for him. The kid has potential, but he isn’t setting the world on fire.

Trent, this may be one of those times when Wenger’s ‘closed door’ negotiating tactics might come back to hurt him. A young kid like Babel is more apt to respond to a club that makes their interest in him public. It gets his friends, family, and teammates talking about it. With that said, I’ll be surprised if we get him, this may just be another move by Rafa to get Quaresma and/or Sabrosa to make up their minds quicker. I’m personally leaning towards Sabrosa now.

I have watch this young lad played for Ajax last season..and i can tell you guys why Rafa wants him so much..1.He’s powerful, pacy and has flair.2.He’s really like Henry..$22M is a fair price for me,for noticing him as the best young talents in Europe, such as Nani, and etc.
