The reason is that you have a defense that's center defender is Patrik Skrtle. Patrik Skrtle????
He won't/cannot stop the likes of Tevez, Drogba, Santa Cruz, Martins, Adebayor, and anybody else I left out.
Should've gotten Ben Haim
Then you need to go get Shanondi Nonda
Then you need some more goal scoring forwards to complement Torres.
And then your good to go.

The way I see it Benitez took a good group of players and tinkered to the point that they played nervous and very unsure of themselves. Only the anointed ones didn't worry (Gerrard, Torres, Alonso?, Carragar).
You can't play worried about making mistakes.
Secondly our midfield is way too slow, no pace. It works in the CL because that's how the rest of Europe plays (which is why we did so well outside of the Premiership but sucked at home).
Can someone tell me why when we need goals he doesn't find some way of getting Crouch into the game? A proven scorer against Chelsea?
We need to pick up the pace of our mid and replace a slow back line.

Benitez made all the right changes.

1. Skrtel was injured so had to replace him with a CB
2. Benayoun was pretty trash the whole game until his run to set up the goal. Pennant has been playing well these past few weeks.
3. Torrres was hurt as well

I'm with Ian. I would have prefered some silver, but in the league we have more points. We could have more wins and have many fewer loses. If we can convert a few of those draws into wins next season we will be right there. If Rafa can get some defensive help and someone else to shoulder the scoring responsibility over the summer I think '08-'09 will hold great promise.

Let's be honest the Reds did not deserve to get to the final after what we saw on the field. Chelsea played faster and Liverpool defense struggles. Moreover Mr. Benitez keeps doing erroneous substitutions, how can you take out Benayoun when he is performing at his best on the right flank? Come on Benitez wake up!!

Looking forward is definitely difficult right now, trying to explain to my fiancee why I was piss drunk and crying at 3:45 yesterday afternoon was possibly more difficult. It will be interesting to see the transfers that occur this summer--with all the speculation about who we've already agreed with, what we need, and who will be unloaded. I could care less what happens with the front office and who stays, who goes. Their job is, and always should be, to support the financial needs of the club. Too often this season were results framed "...amidst boardroom turmoil". With Agger coming back from injury, and Reina, Carra, Masch, Gerrard, and Torres forming the spine, I'm hopeful for next season. Maybe even a trip to Anfield for me...

I'm a Rafa fan but I can't get negative thoughts out of my head after last nights result. It appears we may be in a mini rebuilding stage and that does not bode well for Rafa when he has been there a few years. No problems with Reina but the back four does not pick itself anymore, we lack proven wingers (left side in particular), and there is no creative central midfielder while Alonso struggles with form. Babel is the only signing who is a definite for the future so in an era when managers cry out for time to turn things around it appears that after three years we are no further down the track. I'll stick by my team through thick and thin but questions have to be addressed. On a positive note what a fresh of breath air to see a manager of a top side gracious in defeat. I don't believe Utd or Chelsea are gracious in victory let alone defeat.
