Anfield Banter: Lucas injured, German youth striker signed, and Adios Luisy?
By: Brian | June 29th, 2007* Unfortunately, we won’t be getting a look at Lucas during the U20 World Cup due to injury. He was dropped by the squad yesterday. Details of his injury weren’t made public, but he hasn’t been fully fit for a while now, including during both legs of the Copa Libertadores final. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious and he’ll be ready to compete for a squad spot on our first team in three weeks or so.
* Three days, three youth players signed. This time it’s 16-year-old German striker Marvin Pourie. What are we, Los Galaticos Jovenes? If you’d like to read a bit more about him, go here. Speaking of the youth squad, until recently, I didn’t know that the reason Steve Heighway was asked to step down was because of his hesitation to bring in international players. Rafa apparently wanted more of a worldly representation and Heighway wanted to focus on local talent. Interesting stuff.
* Finally, they are taking our Luisy away. He apparently is part of the Fernando Torres deal. No more sangria. I guess this calls for a tribute video:

Wow, I almost cried as I watched that. He may have had his faults, but what a brilliant player. Torres is going to have some big shoes to fill. Thanks, Luisy, you will be missed.

awww, poor lucas. i saw him yesterday at the hotel in the hallways away from the team and discussing something intently with the trainers. perhaps it was him who decided that he wanted to recuperate a bit more, and not take a chance? i can maybe find out details today as to what happened.
however, lucas’ replacement will be Marcone CENA CERQUEIRA. or at least, i think it will be him. i can confirm it when i get back from the hotel.Posted from
