It may not quite be the flashy signing Liverpool fans have been hoping for in a summer dominated by a series of very public failures, with Henrikh Mkkhitaryan, Diego Costa, and Willian all shunning Anfield for greener pastures, but if Groningen's director of football is to be believed, there could be at least one more attacker arriving before the close of the transfer window.
"All the top clubs in Holland want him," claimed Hans Nijland in the Dutch press, "but Liverpool are here every week too. They are watching him closely and very keen."
The player Nijland believes Liverpool are tracking closely is Richairo Zivkovic, a 16-year-old wunderkind dubbed "the next Arjen Robben" both for his flashy wing play and for breaking Robben's record as the youngest ever player to score for Groningen.
While Liverpool won't be looking at Zivkovic as a difference maker this season, if a deal is completed it will continue the trend under FSG of buying up some of the world's best prospects and integrating them into the club at a relatively early age in the hopes it pays dividends five or more years down the road.
Liverpool Track Promising Dutch Prospect
Continuing the club's focus on youth development, reports out of Holland have Liverpool tracking Richairo Zivkovic, FC Groningen's "next Robben."
