If Capello is appointed as the next England manager, what will it mean to Liverpool?
By: ed_ | December 13th, 2007Well, for one, I believe that the Liverpool captain will become the England captain. Steven Gerrard should always have been the England captain over John Terry. I, like most of the rest of the world, had no idea why John Terry was appointed captain by second-choice Steve. Gerrard has experience of winning at the highest level (Champions League), playing against the best players (Kaka etc) and of leading a side in the sort of winner-takes-all situations that international football is all about.
Looking at Capello, I doubt he would like the sort of loutish chavish behaviour that Terry is capable of from his captain. Would you rather take the quiet professional who eschews the delights of even a simple hamburger or someone who gets drunk, shouts at Americans after a global tragedy and attacks nightclub bouncers?
Yes, Gerrard for captain.
Second thing is that Carragher will be back on international duty. Again, not only is Carra the sort of player that Capello admires and has played in the past. If someone with the medals and trophies that Capello has comes calling, it’ll be very hard to say no. Anyone selected for the England squad will definitely learn something from their time away from their club so it won’t be time wasted with a third class manager, as it was with the grinning idiot that preceded him. Capello has always been known to pick his teams on a combination of form and what’s best for the team so Carra will get what he’s always wanted – a fair crack at the national team.
What are your thoughts on how Capello will affect the careers of Peter Crouch, Jermaine Pennant or any of the English youngsters coming through for Liverpool?

There was a time when i would have agreed but he just isn’t a leader for England. In the Croatia game, where he was meant to be captain he dissapeared.

@rob – i don’t think you can take anything that happened within a disillusioned squad as indicative of a player’s potential. as liverpool supported, we’ve seen how stevie G can become stevie Me at times and how he can disappear from games. but we’ve also seen how he can become an inspirational, talismatic leader when it really counts.

First, he has to correct the mistakes Maclaren did:
-Force Carragher out of retirement.
-Abolish Gerrard/Lampard partnership: drop Lampard
-Inolve Crouch more in big games.
-Give Pennant a call-up.
Make Gerrard Captain instead of the unruly Terry.Posted from

I don’t think Capello should take the armband from Terry on principle alone. No need to ruffle feathers and cause controversy on something that is essentially meaningless. Gerrard should have been given it to begin with as he is England’s best player and a true leader on and off the pitch. Unfortunately, Capello’s middle name is controversy.
Honestly, I think Gerrard should quit England anyhow for two reasons: the so-called ‘fans’ and the press. Most of the fans are just complete morons, all you have to do is listen to 606 to realize that. They have no clue how their negativity affects the side, probably because most are stupid enough to bet on football. The press doesn’t give a rat’s ass about England nor it’s players and are there just to egg the people on.
(BTW, anyone who doesn’t think England have good, young players, you obviously haven’t watched the U21 matches. England are loaded with potential. Just look at Liverpool’s academy: Nathan Eccleston, David Amoo, and Sean Highdale are outstanding young, English players. Not to mention Paul Anderson, Adam Hammill, and Jack Hobbs. Blaming the ‘youth system’ is just ignorant and ill-informed, blaming the FA may be a different story, but you also have to consider population. England has nearly 10 million less inhabitants than Italy, who are the 23rd most populous country in the world (plus have Argentina to draw from), and are on par with Myanmar. Last time I checked Myanmar were listed 156th in the FIFA rankings. Also, you have to consider that England, unlike Argentina, is a ‘rich’ country and their kids think they have better things to do than kick a ball around barefoot in the street.)

i think it’s good for Liverpool players because Capello chooses players based on their performance not their big names.

Personally, I feel he’ll go for Gerrard as skipper as well, I just hope, for England’s sake he ditches the Lampard – Gerrard so-called ‘partnership’ as it’s clear to anyone who knows anything about footy that these two great players can’t play together because they are too similar. They both drive their club sides on when things aren’t going well and are the main men in midfield at club level – the problem is that they both think this for England too but then leave the other to dictate.

Gerrard should have been named the captain in 2006, but The F.A. don’t like the idea of a scouser leading our national team, they would rather have a southerner (specifically from London) to have the armband. They told Ginger McClaren to make Terry the captain and he didn’t argue, because he has no brains.
Gerrard is the most talented player in england and is a true leader.
Terry doesn’t have any charisma.
Beckham will be dropped so he can concentrate on his celebrity status in yankland with his parasite wife.
It is a shame Carragher said no to Capello, he could have been a great asset for england but weas never given the chance (again this is because Southerners are preferred over northerners especially scousers.)Posted from
