Liverpool vs Mickey Mouse FC: What will Rafa do?

By: Brian | August 17th, 2007

I doubt I’ll get around to doing this tomorrow so I might as well get it out of the way. First and foremost, the Gerrard dilemma. I personally hope he doesn’t play, but I’m not Rafa. I kind of think he won’t start and will be on the bench just in case. The other question is whether or not Kewell will play. I’ve been told, through an unreliable source, that there’s a chance, but from what else I’ve read points toward a longer wait for his recovery. As for the rest of the team:

K – Pepe Reina
LB – Alvaro Arbeloa
CB – Jamie Carragher
CB – Daniel Agger
RB – Steve Finnan
LM – John Arne Riise
CM – Xabi Alonso
CM – Javier Mascherano
RM – Jermaine Pennant
F – Dirk Kuyt
F – Fernando Torres

Bench
Charles Itandje
Sammi Hyypia
Momo Sissoko
Yossi Benayoun
Steven Gerrard

Nothing out of the ordinary. I don’t see Babel on the bench over Benayoun, since the latter has experience against Chelsea. Also Yossi can play forward if something were to happen to Kuyt or Torres, which is why I left Voronin off. Rob Styles will be the ref, he called the Chelsea game at Anfield last year.

I guess Crouch may be in the bench and Momo may have to sit out. I hope Gerrard does not play tomorrow. If he does play and it backfires our season will be done for good. Anyways Xabi and Masche are more than a formidable partnership to break that Mickey FC. Cheers

It would be cool if Voronin played against his countryman Shevchenko, the ratings would be high in Ukraine.

I believe Rafa is going to start Gerrard because it’s Chelsea. Although, I believe you hinted at that while making your post. I would love to see Kewell play, but whats wrong with him again? I haven’t heard any injury news about him..otherwise, I think this match is going to be a terribly terribly boring affair.

Skillz, if Voronin plays, it’ll be off the bench.

Brian, he had a slight ligament tear in his thigh/groin area and isn’t supposed to be back before Sept 1st. I highly doubt he’ll play. And I agree, this will be a classic Liverpool/Chelsea waiting-on-the-other-team-to-make-a-mistake affair. It’ll be boring, but extremely intense.

Awesome, I hate Crouch and if there’s any chance he’ll play, I’ll probably be on suicide watch. He’s just not good enough if we’re going to be serious contenders in the league.

I think Rafa will field the strongest ever to ensure a perfect 3 points instead of a draw.I would prefer Babel(LM), Alonso & Gerrald (Yossi) (CM) and Pennant(RM). As for attack Kuyt (Voronin) and Torres. Riise(LB)rest no change.

Well, there’s Torres showing his class.
