FA Cup - Havant & Waterlooville Recap

By: CSD | January 26th, 2008

Wow is about all I can say. Something must have rubbed off while H&W were at the Man U training grounds. I hope some of those guys got noticed and are able to quit those pesky day jobs. It had to be an incredible atmosphere for them. You seldom see the home team’s fans cheering for the visitors as well as their own guys. They seemed to behave as well. I haven’t seen any reports of protests this week.

Most of the Liverpool starters were left out. Carragher, Gerrard, and Torres were left on the bench. Charles Itandje was in goal for Reina, who was off the roster entirely. Martin Skrtel made his starting debut and promptly put the ball in his own net at the 31st minute.

As was mentioned in the above video, it did not make any sense to have the big guns on the bench. They should have been out there in the first half to do the damage and then taken off to rest. I know, rotate, rotate, in Rafa we trust, blah blah. At least it gave the guys from H&W a memorable day. For about 32 total minutes, they were beating former European champions.

I agree. I’m a Red through and through, but honestly wanted to see HW win. It was quite a game, but eventually just the better team wins out.

Overall, worst performance by Liverpool, post war. In a word, smeg.

    Havant did their supporters proud.

-a : you seem to have forgotten quite a lot of games where Liverpool played a LOT worse than that in the 90s…

Liverpool were sub-par, and H&W played well above their expected level.

Ya, I’m guilty of exaggeration from time to time! You hit it on the head more accurately: they were sub-par.
