Liverpool’s Prospective Champions League Opponents

By: ed | December 12th, 2007

So the die has been cast, the names are “virtually” in the bag and Liverpool will face one of:

Real Madrid

AC Milan

Barcelona

Inter Milan

Sevilla

I’m with Torres - I’d like to see Liverpool play Real Madrid who, incidentally, have never played at Anfield. With our famous stadium’s life coming to an end, it would be a special, special night to have the all-time greatest European club playing in a stadium that has played host to so many amazing European nights. Plus, Rafa’s teams always seem to get themselves “up” for the big games and Real Madrid would be just one of those big games. If we can get a win at Anfield, with the crowd behind us, I’d fancy the boys to get draw at the Santiago BernabĂ©u, where Madrid hold a 100 per cent league record so far.

It has to be sevilla for me - best chance of getting through at this stage before we can really take on the big guns afterwards. Although one of the Milan sides are still to come to Anfield (as are Real) I just don’t want to have to beat Barca again - it’s getting boring.

i’d like to see us take on, and beat, the so-called big guns. the last few years, when we’ve gotten to the final, we’ve been subject to some really disappointing criticism along the lines of “they didn’t beat the best people to get here” or “they had an easy run” or “it’s a cup competition and is worthless”.

if we were to play any of Inter, Barca, Real or Milan, there’s no way we could be accused of that again.
