Liverpool have made their second move of the day, and as with Dani Pacheco's loan to SD Huesca it's a move few saw coming but that everyone will have expected to see happen sooner or later. In this case, news has emerged that the club have terminated Alexander Doni's contract, allowing the reserve 'keeper who hasn't been seen in Liverpool red for over a calendar year now to head back home to Brazil permanently.

Arriving on a free from Roma in 2011, Doni was reported to be on wages as high as £85k a week at Liverpool, proving that free transfers for veterans are very rarely anything like free when one considered the cost of a player over his entire contract. Liverpool's willingness to pay such hefty wages may suggest he was intended as insurance against the possible departure of Pepe Reina, but in the end Doni made just four appearances for Liverpool before disappearing into a haze of rumours and uncertainty.

It all ended with the goalkeeper breaking his silence last week to let the world know his lawyer would be sorting out his Liverpool future. That future now seems sorted, and while it might be standard to offer a departing player best wishes for his future career, in Doni's case it might be nice to know just what was going on with the Brazilian keeper who arrived on hefty wages, toiled in the reserves, and then disappeared.

At present, Botafogo looks Doni's most likely new home. Details of the contract termination and any lump-sum payment Liverpool may be making to get him off the books are not yet available.
