This summer’s transfer window for Liverpool Football club has been discussed vastly by not only Liverpool supports but all supporters of football in general. The most common opinions that I have heard is that Liverpool will struggle this season and that there is no chance of Europe. But my opinion is different, not only because I’m a dedicated Liverpool fan and therefore bias is some way but is because I honestly feel that Liverpool Football club have potentially done some good business in the window. This opinion comes from seeing the likes of Jay Spearing, Charlie Adam, Dirk Kuyt, Alberto Aquilani and Maxi leave the club and the promising talents of Joe Allen, Sahin and Borini enter the club. I’m well aware that many fans will have different opinions and I expect to hear that Dirk Kuyt scored some important goals for the club, and yes he did and I will always be grateful for that but he was never a consistent performer or a fantastic player, he was signed as a striker and ending up being one of the slowest wingers in the Premier league who either gave the ball away with his first touch or slowed the attack down by going backwards. The other players I have mentioned have also shown glimpses of talent during their Liverpool careers but none of them are the type of player that is going to win you trophies year on year or challenge further up the table, therefore I feel being able to offload these players has not only got them off the wage bill but also allowed the opportunity for some of our exciting young players to be given a chance. The young players I am talking about are coming from an exciting group of players from the academy and cannot be talked about without mentioning Raheem Sterling, it is clear to see that this boy has got immense potential and given the game time I’m sure will develop into a great player. The departures of players at Anfield are in my opinion going to also unearth some of the other talents of the academy such as Suso and Morgan for example. The signings that Brendan Rogers has been able to bring in have also strengthened the squad in my opinion especially Joe Allen who looks comfortable and confident already in a Liverpool Shirt and will certainly help the team to adopt the style of play that Rogers wants his Liverpool side to play. Borini is a player that I feel will become a good player maybe not a potent goal scorer but definitely with the guidance of Brendan Rogers and the time to find his feet he will be able to notch up a decent tally of goals this season and thereafter. Sahin is a player that is coming with a lot of expectation coming on the back of being a player from Real Madrid and being the German player of the year, he is one that I think will also help the side to adopt the Rogers style of play and once the team is playing more confidently in that style will have a big impact on games. This article cannot be completed without mentioning Clint Dempsey and Michael Owen, for me I would have liked to see Clint Dempsey at the club but only as a short term fix for the lack of goals in the team at the present time, as he is 29 years old but knows how to score, therefore I was disappointed that the club weren’t able to come up with the money, as for the price wanted he suited our criteria for goals need and value for money. I’m glad that Michael Owen has gone to Stoke and not Liverpool because although we have got to the position that we need a proven goal scorer to support the current squad, for me it would have been embarrassing for Liverpool Football Club to resort to going after a player who turned his back of his days playing in a Liverpool shirt to wear a Manchester United one instead. I would much rather save the pride of the club and allow the young players to have their chance than resorting to Michael Owen. In conclusion the transfer window has for been see the club offload some deadwood, reduce the wage bill, give the chance to young talent and not waste large sums of money like previous transfer windows.
