Since the tabloids seized on Brendan Rodgers' comments last week that he would have to consider any serious offer for Andy Carroll, there has been a steady stream of rumours linking the striker to multiple destinations in Italy and England. None, however, have seemed to carry much weight. Now, though, multiple sources from the Telegraph to ESPN to various local Newcastle outlets are suggesting that Carroll's old club are about to bid for him—or may have already—in a loan-to-buy deal that would see them pay his salary and then a £17M fee at the end of the 2012-13 season.
